I had a law student from my law school reach out asking to speak about my former company. I said I couldn’t provide a ton of information since I don’t work there anymore but I was willing to talk. They’ve rescheduled three times. I’m honestly just so annoyed. It feels super disrespectful

I wouldn’t ghost. I’d deny my time and make this a teaching moment for them. Let them know that they clearly aren’t respecting your time and it would be very detrimental if they continue to treat people this way in the future. Legal is a small community and people talk.


I agree with this. A great way to turn it into a teachable moment while also simultaneously cutting ties.


Then simply ignore this individual.


For regular law students you could ghost. For students at your alma mater you should tell them off


Say nothing in writing. They will put it on the internet somewhere. Just ghost, they clearly don’t care either way.


The responses here match my thoughts. On the one hand if someone from my alma mater reaches out I really do want to help as much as I can, and if they do this to me it just shows they don’t have the same respect I would have for them. One the other hand, given that I would want to help in one way or another, I would possibly tell them that they’ve acted a shitty way and that they should get their shit together before joining the legal profession.


Along the lines of what others are saying but slightly different is to ask why they keep on rescheduling. If they are dealing with emergencies, etc., it might best to tell them, that in the professional world, it is best to wait until your issue/crisis is over/under control before scheduling these calls. A rescheduling from them with--

Sorry. I am dealing with some personal family emergencies and would hate rescheduling on you. It might be better that we talk after all this settles down.

Is a lot better than whatever s/he is doing.


Which means this person obviously doesn’t really value your input all that much. As I said, hit the ignore button. I’d give someone a pass once, but three times is ridiculous.

This has happened to me before and I ghosted the individual. I think it’s the best options

Hi all, recently one of my colleague has switched from tcs to nagarro but after having a call with him yesterday, he mentioned that he is regretting to leave tcs and rather he could have changed the project as he was getting good retention offer as well but he switch thinking that he will not get release easily from current project so it may effect future so he switched but yesterday he said that other things didn't came in his mind previously that job security is there, which he regret...

MA insurance coverage question. Client insurer is trying to close out a claim where insured was reasonably liable and insurer paid out the claim. Insurer sent a general release to claimant. General release has the standard language releasing “all know and unknown claims.” Claimant is saying that it won’t sign release with the “unknown claims” language and retained counsel who is saying it’s bad faith and violation of MGL 93A /176D to insist on having the general release signed as is.

Do any of my fellow criminal defense attorneys feel like they were in a completely different profession than 98% of the attorneys that you know who do civil or transactional work? I read the posts about billable hours and the cost of litigation etc... I am here getting flat fees that range anywhere from a couple hundred dollars to many thousands of dollars. I am constantly chasing the bad payers on a payment plan but it seems 1000 times better than a billable hour. 


Is it normal to be threatened to be fired after making mistakes that you had no idea were mistakes in the first place?
I’m a junior litigation associate at a small firm, and the managing partner says things like “you aren’t providing value to the firm” or “you’re being paid to avoid mistakes like these” when I make mistakes due to, what I believe, to be a lack of guidance and instruction. As in, they could be easily avoided with a “please keep in mind X” or something like that. Thoughts?


I feel like I should know this but why do some senders of emails also put themselves in copy? What’s the benefit of looking for an email in an inbox vs sent mail?


Can anyone recommend an app or software for tracking billable hours to make it easier to put together and submit timesheets? I work for a small firm and all of our billing/invoicing is done manually. I got a job with the federal government. I think? All the paperwork is completed, got email confirmation that background and suitability cleared, but still don’t have a final offer. Anyone know of this happening to someone and them NOT getting the job? I need to give notice ASAP but everything I’ve read says to wait until you get the formal offer and time just keeps ticking.


If meta is in a hiring freeze, why do I keep seeing new counsel positions posted on LinkedIn? Would it be a waste of time to apply?


Advice needed: We are in contract to purchase a house that we discovered shortly after signing the contract is 1,000 square feet smaller than what was advertised at the open house, Zillow and the MLS. We believe we are being ripped off and no longer want the house at this significantly smaller square footage without some sort of fair price adjustment. Any tips? Anyone else been through something like this? Jurisdiction is New York, contract is standard form real estate contract.
