I had a mediocre background. I am not mediocre. I’ve never gotten past the background rounds. I’ve never gotten to solve a case in an interview setting. I know I would impress. How do I get there?

You are the sum of your past actions. If your background isn't impressive... Maybe time to look in the mirror and ask yourself some tough questions about why? Hard to imagine a scenario where someone is impressive, but has never done anything impressive?

You can get around the mediocre school thing. I went to a university that most people have never heard of. However, I had a good gpa and some solid internships (not with crazy impressive companies, but interesting roles) Yes, it’s harder to make the case for yourself than someone from an ivy it’s still doable. Focus on the skills and experiences rather than the names of schools or companies.

I second that

Sell it better. There has to be something in your past that you can sell. If you’re even getting to the background rounds, your resume is probably working which means your stated experience is OK. It’s just your selling of it that is the problem. Feel free to DM me if you want help. I was in your shoes years ago, just had to reframe my experience and it worked.

Keeping applying especially starting Jan, people have their budgets so they know the headcount they need and backfilling from the people that left post bonuses - best of luck

I felt similarly to this during undergrad and was passed over for interviews twice. What ultimately worked for me was finding someone at the firm who could vouch for me (aka a referral).

How long can one stay in bench. 2) Is there a possibility one can get into a project without these interviews.
