Ask A Recruiter

I had a recent loss in my immediate family. I feel like my boss does not believe me. He knew the family member had been in bad shape for weeks. Why do I feel the need to justify the loss to him?

You shouldn’t have to. Either you have a really crummy boss or you’re overthinking it. Either way, you shouldn’t feel guilty.

You should focus on your family and grieving. If your boss doesn't believe you, you can take it up with HR. If the boss outright says they dont believe you, tell them they can kiss MY ass.

You don’t. Focus on family.

You don't need to justify it. Your boss needs to step off and let you mourn.

So, so sorry for your loss. Please don’t justify yourself to anyone. The top priority right now needs to be you and your immediate family. Take care.
