It can, especially in the corporate world. (I’m assuming by “big brand” you meant client side?) Those recruiters aren’t well-versed in the creative world, so they often cast a wide net not really knowing what the hiring manager is looking for. I’ve seen it happen from the hiring manager side, so just basing this on my experience.
Sorry it didn’t work out for ya. But hey—take it as a sign that it wasn’t meant to be. If nothing else, you dusted off your resume, book, and interview chops. Maybe it’ll motivate you get out there and find something else.
Happens all the time! Has happened to me!
It does. Sorry. Take comfort in knowing you may have been spared something painful by it getting it.

Agree with the earlier comments. Have some faith that if it was meant to be yours, it would have been. Trust there’s something better for you on the horizon that you’re being reserved for. 🙏
Such kind responses. ❤️
Yes happens to me too. I don’t get reached out to ever, and then when I do it goes nowhere. Just take it as a compliment that your resume/book is good enough to get their attention. The right thing will come!
Yeah it’s more of a thing when you start getting into more senior, higher paying roles
