I had an interview where I asked what the salary range is, and the person refused to answer the question. They said they would have the recruiter reach out to me. Is that common? I feel as if I’ve lost the advantage if the recruiter emails and asks what my expectations are.

Many companies only allow HR to discuss compensation during the hiring process. The internal recruiter you’re working with will be the best person for you to discuss salary expectations with.

Honestly, oftentimes the hiring manager has very little say in a final offer. The number is usually proposed by the recruiter or HRBP

like

I don't think you've lost the advantage. If the recruiter reaches out and asks what your expectations are, just ask again what the salary range is or what salary the company would typically give to the position. If they say no, you may be forced to give a figure, and I recommend giving something a bit higher than you want so you have some wiggle room to negotiate in.

Thanks, this is very helpful. I'm hoping the recruiter reaches out soon!

Seems to be pretty common. I hate when they do this.

I felt so confident in applying. The recruiter called a week later and said the hiring manager was extremely impressed with my resume. The first “interview” (informal meet and greet) went great and I was told I’m definitely moving on to the formal panel interview. I reached out to the recruiter with a happy “just following up” email on Friday afternoon and she said the coordinator should be in touch by Monday at the latest. No email came. Talk me off ledge. Confidence plummeting.

Should a DevOps Cloud Engineer with 2 years experience earning around 10 LPA (base salary) in a Fortune 200, switch to a startup which pays almost 20 LPA base salary?

All thoughts are welcome.

After 3 years of dealing with the worst firm I've ever had the displeasure of working for, I finally landed my dream gig at a small specialty firm. The people at the new firm are all SMEs featured in and contributors to the most notable business publications in the world, less than 100 employees, better benefits, unlimimted PTO, doubled my pay and landed a senior role.

Keep looking for what you want and deserve. I'm happy to be forging a better path away from what I've had to endure.

Hey fellow fish. I’m wanting some reference to an eclectic editing style that incorporates a bunch of filmic styles into the narrative. Not in a Womb Stories way, but more in an Uncommon B&Q Build a Life way. The reference I’m thinking of cuts away to vintage black and white footage and even old cartoons. I just can’t for the life of me remember what it was for. Any suggestions would be massively appreciated!

Q for HR folks! For companies who have offices in US and Canada, how easy would it be for American HR team to set up a role & compensation via the Canadian office for a Canadian remote worker? Would be a lot of work? But i know companies like Meta and Spotify do do this.

I'm Canadian and applied to a US remote role. Canadians don't need a visa for this. One of the ways would be to use Canadian entity's hr/payroll services. They showed keen interested but waned since finding out I'm Canadian.

Hello all. My company just went through an acquisition and the company did some restructuring of job titles. When they did this we were all advised the company would be making sure our jobs pay aligned with the national average.
My issue with this is my job title went from a Technical Support Supervisor to a Customer Success Team Lead. I have voiced my concerns with management but have been advised job titles are semantics. In my eyes this is a demotion, and will affect how much my job is worth.
