I had no idea that Regulation D existed (max 6 withdrawals/transfers a month out of savings account). Apparently this paused since April 2020 due to covid.
My paycheck goes straight to CapOne savings and I have a lot of transfers (assuming they are considered transfers). Lump sum to checking (rent mostly), payment of like 4 credit cards, brokerage account, maybe more.
I moved out of my parents place a year ago so maybe I never had 6+ moves until covid. Should I move this activity to checking?
I don’t bother with a savings account for this reason.

Yes, you should. Does your employer offer split payments, so you can say something like, $1500 to savings and the rest to checking? That's the easiest way to do it, and just send to savings whatever you can that doesn't go to your necessities or planned spending.
Thanks everyone. This whole time I was wondering why people keep any money in a checking account outside of payments that can only be made that way (checks, ATM, debit card, etc)... I just got lucky and didn't really have 6+ transactions until starting last year, after the rule was paused.
Since I have no idea when the rule will start again, it sounds like I should move part of my paycheck and all my cards/brokerage to be linked to checking.
Yes if you will have more than 6 transactions.
I’m annoyed by this as well!
It has been around over 20 years and is not difficult to manage

Capital One makes it easy to create a second savings account. You can use that as an intermediary that will add 5 more transactions each month. Or just use your checking account for some of the auto pays.
