I hate gerrymandering. Regardless of who does it, though research and statistical analysis points to republicans doing it more aggressively and to greater effect. What happens here? Does it just get left unchecked? Or it does until it goes too far? SCOTUS has already said partisan gerrymandering is beyond the reach of federal courts.

The only way the GOP can push through their fascist agaenda is to continue to take away power from the people. At some point we should start reevaluating whether the union makes sense. We saction other countries for anti democratic practices but we allow red states to do the same thing Venezuela does to it's people.

There’s work being done to prove out how extreme certain gerrymandering maps are. The strategy being that by showing that the outcome is completely extreme will make it easier to challenge.

It goes to court, and if proved it’s creating an unrepresentative landscape, it will get rewritten in a not-meaningful way.

Of course it gets left unchecked. Republicans could never win another election in America without gerrymandering and the electoral college. Thinking the Supreme Court - which is a purely political arm of the Republican Party - will do anything is absurd.

Totally agreed. It’s amazing how little power the would have if the table couldn’t be incredibly tilted in their favor … insane how propped up they are. And democrats are only able to eek out a practically non-existent majority. Also interesting that republicans have basically ignored this post 😂

The Falsest/fakest Democracy on Earth!

At one point, I had an eight hour drive through three other voting districts to get to my representative’s district office. It may have looked like it was a continuous area on a map with no detail, but in truth it had a National Park, two rivers with no bridges in the district and several mountains with no roads over them breaking up the entire area. It may not look as bad as some gerrymandered areas, but it, and the four districts just like mine around us, have successfully negated the votes in the 50 mile radius around where I was for at least 2 decades.

This is wild if true. If you don'tind me asking OP where was this?? An 8 hour drive is... Larger than the state of PA across!

Pretty torn between CSR and Amex Gold cards. Ignoring annual fees, I’m torn between points earning potential. With most of my budget going towards discretionary spending (dining, groceries, drinks) the Gold has an appeal, yet CSR’s broader definition for travel might even out the point earning potential (ie covering full cost of one Airbnd for several friends would be a big point generator). Are there any other major factors I might not be considering? I’ve gone thru the TPG review FWIW.

I need some unbiased perspective: four of us teach the same class and, as required, give common assessments. We discuss how many points assignments are worth, how much we curve each test, etc though we vary a bit here and there on all of these things. The problem is that one of us grades everything DRAMATICALLY easier. Their average on a 50 point assignment might be as much as 20 points higher than the other teachers.
