I hate it when people dial into Zoom meetings on their phone instead of using their computer’s audio. Their voice is delayed and sounds tinny. Drives me nuts!!!

Hi! Anyone successfully use Zoom or Teams to record interviews that will get spliced with other footage? Any best practices or pitfalls to avoid?

How are you teaching middle or high school chorus in the fully virtual realm? I’m looking for new ideas and techniques. I hate that my choirs can only sing on Zoom with everyone muted...that’s the opposite of choral singing :-(

The short: Would anyone be up for starting regular virtual co-working sessions? I’m thinking 2-3 rounds of [5 mins to set intentions : 45 mins of work : 10 min break]. The long: One technique I’ve found to stay focused is “body doubling,” i.e., having another person present while you’re working. I’ve had some success replicating this over Zoom/Google Meet. Everyone works on their own thing and stays muted during work blocks, but videos stay on. It reminds me of studying in the library vs at home

At what point do you disconnect from Slack? Do you feel guilty if you take the night off completely?

I was recently offered a Zoom interview. The school had 10 interview slots for me to choose from. Three were one day this week and the rest are next week. I chose the first time slot available. Should I have waited until one of the last slots so I was fresher on their mind when choosing a candidate? I am just sitting here stressing out until I here something. Also, do interviewers still appreciate a hand written thank you for the interview?

We have motion sensor lights in my office and the sensor is far from my desk. Consequently, if I'm on a long WebEx, the lights go out and it's embarrassing. The building won't change the sensor. Anyone find a solution for this (aside from standing up and moving, which would be very awkward)? I can't rearrange my office.

I had one of those VERY nonproductive days today. I think I accomplished maybe an hour of billable work, even though I had a bunch of stuff to do. Someone senior at work is very dismissive of my questions and makes me feel nervous around them. I have just joined the team and so I have a lot of questions. They also try to blow things out of proportion or misrepresent facts and I get flustered in the moment and can’t keep track of what really happened. So I end up accepting blame for things that were not my responsibility. And the truth hits me a few hours later. How can I break this cycle?

I need to let it out but I’m so fucking proud of myself and I just realized how lucky I got and it took me until just now to see it. I started in the military and it only took 2 months for me to get out and fall into a bottomless hole of depression. My transition went from: $13 an hour part time, separation with the wife, new job at $18 an hour for physical labor, hit with disability diagnosis, then $20 an hour new office job, reconnecting with wife, having 2nd kid, nearly divorcing (cont.)

Pretty new here! Great news ..JOB offer …however the company is lowballing salary ..I informed recruiter Amount was not acceptable …sent off the salary requirement letter …. Nail biting ..Why waste my time again …she didn’t know the budget… so we proceeded forward, her reply ..advised me to talk w hiring team but in final interview there was no opportunity to speak abt salary w hiring team ….Have to say I enjoy the posts & it’s a decent networking site!!
