I hate my job. Back to back to back deals this month. The client is so frustrating to work with. Also, other partners throwing a bunch of securities filings at me that need to be filed asap to just add to the pile. Wasn’t even hired as a securities attorney. A bunch of other partners giving me a bunch of BS one off assignments too that they need in a day or 2. I spend more time trying to jump between assignments than I am actually working. Screw this

Here’s what I do in your shoes and have for the last 15 years: take all the projects on your plate that are “ASAP”. Take 8-12 hours (but no more) and divide that by the # of projects. Example, if there 4 ASAP projects, the # is 2-3 hours. Break your day (or the rest of the day) up into equal chunks, with a 30m-one hour break between each chunk to answer email, do other low brain tasks and take a break. spend that time you calculated (2-3 hours) on each project- and NO MORE- 30 minutes before the time slot is over, draft an email to partner or senior saying you only had 2-3 hours to spend on this today given your other obligation and you were able to do ABC but XYZ could use more attention and offer to pick it back up in 48 hours if they need more help. Don’t promise 24 unless you know you can finish all other projects on your plate in 24. I hope that helps OP.

*** I still work that way even with my own clients. I will tell them that if they want an S-1 that’s a piece of crap I can give it to them in a day or two. If they want something better, they can wait or find another lawyer bc I’m not caring about unreasonable clients

Legit something that has comforted me is I hate this job so much that getting fired would be a blessing, so if I have too much shit and fuck it up that's fine

I had to do a double take to check I didn’t post this myself. I’m in the same position - feel for you. Being sucked into securities because mids left but just trying to delay timelines as much on that stuff so I can focus on corp.

Here are some of the noob questions and answers that can keep them out of this bowl.
Q1. Why did X coin go up? Ans: don’t be lazy do your research. Go to the coin’s Reddit and go to the daily thread mostly you will find the news. Other crypt news sites Decrypt, CoinTelegraph. Q2: Is it still a good time to get in X coin? Ans: Again don’t be lazy. Read about the project, look at market cap, search Twitter Reddit , plot the charts and decide by yourself.

I am a project engineer in the heavy civil field with a company in the top 15-20 in the US. I’m about to hit my my 2 year mark with the company and have my eoy review next week. We average 50hours a week for most of the year and worked 60+hours through the summer and fall working essentially every Saturday. For base salary what would be a good raise for 2022 with inflation & work load?

HSBC project ending??

Anyone know any decent web developers that can quote for a project?

I work in international tax and plan on sticking around for a while. Sometimes I check out exit opportunities just to see what’s out there and noticed a lot of job postings requiring experience with ASC 740, which I don’t have any experience with. How can I get practical experience over with this section? Is it difficult to understand or is it something I can get a good grasp on through a project or two?

Any leads would be very useful. Thanks

Is there a point in reaching out to HR if I am being mentally tortured in the project. My project manager has cancelled my leaves which I planned 2 months in advance and approved for the person who is very close to him (Chaatu). Will the HR help me here or start giving me gyaan about company policies.

Hello guys, my colleague said he's facing issues with his client's Oracle database. He said it took his team 8 weeks to query the database. Database size is 3TB. Eventually, he wants to delete all data from the database and then shrink the database. The deletion will probably take forever to happen too. How can he optimize queries to the database? And how can he eventually delete all data fast and shrink the database successfully?

Does anyone else get a million emails from sketchy recruiters with “small business veteran owned” businesses looking to staff you on their contracts? How do I stop these? I say “public sector client” in my resume and linkedin when referring to federal clients and use industry descriptors for commercial clients (large financial services organization, commercial airline). I do not list my clearance anywhere, but every day I get an email or two from someone from a “veteran owned small business” government contractor. What makes them think I’d leave Deloitte to work at some fly by night small staff aug cash cow?

Ok, so I have a couple of offers, one kind of lackluster, for the County. The other is for a credit union-I left credit unions a few years ago to join a FinTech supporting credit unions)
I was laid off last month and have had a flurry of interviews…this credit union offer is my favorite so far, I do have another offer I’m waiting for from another tech company which has a much higher salary range, but nothing is written in stone.
Should I counter? The offer is $95k for a project manager.

Have any of you taken "low bono" clients while working at a firm? I want to take on a low bono client or two but not sure who would get the money. This is a contract opportunity through a non profit so I'm assuming a 1099 will be issued. The per hour rate is significantly less than my billable rate. I would (obviously) like the money but my real objective is just getting experience/networking since I recently moved to a new state and don't have clients of my own.

Hello guys, I have got an offer on contract basis for Qatar location from one of the MNCs in Pune. I am a software professional with around 7.3 years of IT experience. But they will be offering me Max 14k Qatari riyal per month. So, will it worth going there if i have to manage accomodation, food and transport on my own. Please can suggest me something about it, it's a contract based offer for 6 months extendable. Will it be a good idea to go to Qatar with this much of salary? Thanks in advance!

I’m a first year and fucked up big time. The client doesn’t know about this but a senior associate was furious. I know it’s 100% my fault but no one above me actually reviewed my work bc everyone was so busy. But then I found out the senior gave a rant about how I fucked up to another colleague. When I apologized to him, he was really salty. Since then, my heart drops every time I see his email bc I’m too scared. He is usually pretty emotional and his instructions are vague, which doesn’t help.

Just say no. “Sorry, I’m at capacity”. “Sorry, I can’t get to this till next week”. Everyday I see people on here posting about how they’re going to quit with no new job, or how they’ll take a 50% paycut to go to in-house or small law (neither of which is a guaranty of WLB if you’re wondering). If you’re ready to leave anyway, why are you so bothered about what the partners will say if you just… don’t do it? Most firm’s official requirements are 2000. 2000/12 = 166 a month. (Cont’d)
