Some people are awful managers

Spoiler alert: they have no idea and are terrified of saying the wrong thing because they don’t want to take responsibility for the instructions they give you so they say as little as possible. Always looking for an excuse to bus-throw juniors 🙄

I work with a senior like this and it is soooo annoying. I thought I was a terrible idiot the first assignment with him, now I know it is just bc he kind of sucks and wants to have everyone else make judgment calls. Doesn't even make sense because it's not like the partners are going to accept "the junior did it" as a valid excuse.
Idk, I agree with most replies but I (senior) am dealing with a mid that keeps asking the dumbest scoping questions on a very discrete issue. Like no, we don’t need to circle up every two hours, just turn the damn work product
My thing is I can just submit these completed tasks as is, but I know there will be complains and/or a thread on here (or worst talk between this said junior associate and other junior associates) saying “do bad associates know that they’re bad.”

Just gotta find their preferred communication style. Have one partner who prefers emails with bulleted lists of questions (if I’m a day or two in advance of deadline). Have another who prefers comment bubbles and tracked changes. One prefers a phone call or office visit (the worst!). Have another I could just send teams messages too about every item I encountered, and another I only ask essential questions too that are well thought out. Just gotta know your audience.

A2: Exactly. A4: This will be the same with clients.

I think you are reading attitude into emails where there isn’t any. “Don’t worry about that” is a perfectly reasonable response. It means the question isn’t relevant. If it helps pretend that they said THANKS!!!!! Great QUESTION!!!!!
I thought so as well but it’s with every email and I’m not sending back to back emails-like in the course of this transaction I had probably 3 major questions that I could not solve for the life of me and that’s three separate spread days(heck weeks) apart and each response is the same
