Hi all, apologies if this isn’t the appropriate forum, but first time doing multi state taxes. Is there an easy way to find out the days or income thresholds for filing state taxes?
I know some places don’t require filing if you worked fewer than X days (like IL) or earned less income in that state than state standard deductions (like NY) but having much more trouble gaining clarity for other states.

What’s a reasonable amount for an accountant to charge you for a single year of filing taxes? Simple situation, just filing income and a couple deductions. Just got quoted $700 and thought that was quite high.

I totally messed up. I had enough for down payment (HYSA), and pumped everything aside from that lump into stocks before the crash. Someone pls educate me on 401ks! If I earn 80k and my employer does a dollar for dollar match up to 3% of my contribution and then 50 cents on the dollar match for the next 2% I contribute, would the breakdown look like this:

3% employee contribution: 2400

In prep for backdoor Roth, I converted my pre-tax IRA money into a 401k to avoid any pro-rata tax issues. Anyone know if there’s any sort of buffer period I need to wait or am I safe to do back door as soon as that money officially hits the 401k?

Looking for a friendly discussion here... don’t know if there is a straight forward answer, but why are we allowed to put more in a 401k vs an IRA? They are essentially the same thing (correct me if I’m oversimplifying) with the main difference being 401ks are provided by employers. Do you feel like this could be a contributor to the wealth gap? 401ks are more of the norm at white collar jobs and a lot of companies don’t offer one. Is it fair? Talk to me.
