I have $100K just sitting in Ally and it is making me anxious with the low return. It is hypothetically for a down payment in the next year. But is there anything better for a short term investment than a HYSA getting 0.6%?

If a rock solid bank account with .6% return makes you anxious, I don’t think you want to start taking on any potential downside at all 😛

Look into I-bonds at treasurydirect.gov if can keep $10k tied up for at least a year. 0.50% PLUS inflation compounded semiannually...there is an FAQ on website...but rate is only good through end of this month(but 0.5%+inflation is fixed for life of bond if purchase before reset)-they reset every 6 months. Most of the time TIPS bonds outyield I-bonds, so not something commonly used...but 5-years TIPS are priced at -1.24% last time I looked...so you get a whole lot less than the usual spread with TIPS today.

Why not bond etf for like 4%

4% pshhh

If you need the money in a year... it’s best to keep to there in my opinion... you can shop around for slight key higher rates, but not worth it in my opinion. I’m at .75

At what number do you feel like you’re making enough whether to satisfy your desires or just not feel guilty about spending money.I’ve been blessed to have my income raised a total of 85% throughout 9 years but shortly after each raise I still feel like it’s not enough to live by and that I’m always behind. I live in a high cost area and make triple of what my friends make yet it still doesn’t feel enough. Cont’d

Do people tend to age out of wanting to FIRE?

In your 20s-30s, you don’t know much, you’re told what to do, you have few financial resources so you are tied to your job. Under these circumstances it makes perfect sense why you would want to FIRE asap.

But eventually you advance up the ladder, you are now the boss and your people do all the grunt work. You also have built up expertise which makes the job easier. And you are making the best money of your life. FIRE is no longer so pressing.

I have a lot of student debt from law school. I’ve refinanced a couple of times and received the best fixed rate available, but I’ve seen others refinance with a variable rate which of course is lower. I’ve read some other comments of people refinancing at a super low variable rate....isn’t this risky? Of course I am afraid of going variable and then the interest rates going up a lot. Am I missing something?

Do you spread your investments in ETF products that track the same index? IE VOO and SPLG.

Was just thinking the other night if you drop it all (or a large part) in VOO and they have some unheard of scandal that somehow slipped by audit your path to FIRE could be hurting.

Am I overthinking here?
