Unless you know details of all other candidates , it is hard to come to that conclusion. Or your HM said or did something for you to come to that conclusion
Most jobs get many applications. You are more likely to get rejected than accepted by definition
You may be overqualified and above their budget. Remote jobs also tend to have much higher competition because the job is open nationally, as opposed to a commuter job which is only open to local applicants. Due to the high demand for remote jobs currently, there are also many qualified candidates willing to do the work for a lower cost. Companies naturally care about their overheads and will aim for more value for their dollar, generally speaking. Depending on how desperate you are for a remote job, you may need to lower your budget further.
I also find that many smaller companies tend to have less funding, unless bullishly backed by VC or PE, and have no choice but to pay less.
I’m a senior level manager and none of my remote job applications have gotten a response, while I’ve already interviewed with 9-10 local companies.
