Hey OP, glad you figured it out now rather than having an ex-wife and the divorce papers to also sort through! Definitely crack down on your finances, how much are you actually spending on necessities vs. Luxuries? There are a lot of things you can live without that you might find yourself paying for just because you like it. Maybe keep 1 or 2 but stop paying for things you can do without. Commit to your finances. It will be slow but it can be done, it just requires a lot of determination but you can do it! You got rid of one pile of useless dead weight causing the damage, now it's time to work on getting through the damage :) best of luck!
Hey man no shame in asking for help. That's what family is for. But definitely start renting out those extra rooms and cut back on the unnecessary costs. If I'm being honest I myself spend way too much eating out.
That's good to know. Fingers crossed that no hiccups with SoFi. 24 months, guys. It's going to go by fast. I can't wait to be debt free.
Make sure you have some minimal emergency cash in "savings," then your plan is perfect. Knock that shit out and move on to a new stage in your life
👍
OP, the "experts" say 6 months expenses, I would say 3 is fine in this case. So if you're spending 3k/mo on base living expenses, get $10k in an account and don't touch it... and then go all-in on debt repayment.
P2, I'm not. I was just stupid and financed her unhealthy spending habits in the name of love. It took me a while to realize I was being manipulated before I walked away.
AT, credit score is mid 700's, but with that amount of debt, it's tough to get a decent line of credit. I applied for a Chase Slate to transfer balances, but was given only a 5k limit. Possibly because my other primary care is from Chase as well and I have a 25k limit there, almost completely utilized.

Thanks for the newsflash, EY1.
120k after taxes should be more like 6k. Half of that towards debt isn't aggressive at all, especially high interest debt. Living expenses and life costs especially with the life on the road shouldn't be more than 3k, if it is, it shouldn't be with where you are at debt wise.
With my current lifestyle, I have a little over 1k after paying minimum payments on debt. I'm thinking of making a few lifestyle changes like cutting cable and not eating out on the weekends. But everything just seems like a fucking huge mountain to climb. I'm also exploring ways of additional income; maybe a part time job or something.
Uh OP- what a terrible situation to be in. But you realized and making changes- so that's all that matters. As others mentioned, cut down on expenses for about a year (eat in, watch free tv, exercise outside rather than gym, shop only if you have to, have a room mate if possible, etc etc). This should let you save about 1-2k (being very aggressive) a month. In a year you cut your debt down to almost half. And save your pet diem as much as you can. If you do that, not only you have no expense for the days your travel, you can stretch that for the whole week.
But set a goal. You can do this for a long period of time. So set a goal doing this for a year or two.
HC1, I'll definitely be willing to talk offline. Do you have a burner?
You need a significant lifestyle change. I'm not saying you live a life of luxury. What I'm saying is you need to trim the fat and cut out everything that's not an income generating expense or a necessity.
Pretend you make $60k, size your apartment, car, dates, hobbies etc appropriately, and all the rest goes to debt. You can live very well on $3k/mo all in, most places. Also, if you're still saving in a 401k or elsewhere stop and put all that into debt payments until the CC debt is gone.
BA1, I own a house, so moving out just like that isn't an option. I probably should explore renting out a room. I feel like I got myself in this mess, and need to dig myself out of it without trying to get a loan from my parents etc.
I'll check it Sofi. Is there any catch? Anyone here used them?
No worries, SC1. I'm in Houston. We got this👋
Don't use that actually. If you want to msg me about debt he'll use: D-2d609c7@maildrop.cc
Looked up SoFi. Prequal is 9% for 50k, with a monthly payment of 1592 @ 36 months. I can put 2500/month towards this, and be done in less than 24 months. The downside is I won't have anything in savings (at least not until December when bonuses come around). I can throw all my bonus and tax return from next year into savings. On the other hand, I can put 1K in savings/month, and go with the 36 months.
I know going without savings is assuming some risk, but I want this cloud hanging over me gone ASAP.
Thoughts?
