I have 20+ years IT experience and am US citizen.I am considering taking break for a while - travel, visit family. Is this risky. After my break - say 3- 6 months or a year, can I start again in same or new job at same level. Or do I start from scratch now ?

If you like your current job I would see if they don’t offer a leave program. I feel a lot of companies are starting to offer this. My firm has a really good sabbatical program and they even give you a percent of your salary and you keep your benefits. Even if you won’t get any pay/benefits it would be worth it and likely make the leave more relaxing knowing you don’t return and have to job search.

But if they don’t I feel 3-6 months is not a long enough time period where you can’t come back and have your experience still be relevant.

You can totally take a break and then come back. Just be aware timing wise we may be headed for a recession. Might be better to work until the recession hits, and then take the time?

Currently a first year staff in Risk Advisory in a Mid-Tier Firm hoping to move to Big 4 for either Risk or Cyber. When would be the most appropriate time to make the change? I heard that Senior Staff in mid-tier would most likely be hired as an “Experienced Hire” in Big 4. So would it be smarter to make the move now as a first year staff since I’ll be considered Experienced Hire anyway?

What are your thoughts on open relationships? I’ve never been in one. The idea itself of not having sex with the same person for the rest of your life I get. But in reality I just don’t know if I can do it personally. Anybody else struggle with this? I feel like most of the community wants open and I just don’t know if I’ll ever get there. And I feel like it limits your (already small) dating pool. Not suggesting I change just to be in a relationship, I just struggle with the whole thing. Sigh
