I have $30k in two old 401ks with previous employers I need to move. Thinking I’ll just sell out of the mediocre funds they are in and put it all into ETFs with fidelity or other low cost broker. Any reason I should keep them in they funds they are in? Would love to do Roth conversation, but above $165k so doesn’t seem to make sense. TIA!

Just roll them into your current 401k. Do you need to move them? What do you consider mediocre funds? Why do you want to convert to Roth? What does above 165k mean related to converting to Roth?

like

Nothing wrong with a target date fund. If you don’t want it in the current 401k, you can either leave it or put it in an IRA. I don’t think 165k is a magic number for conversion and don’t know where that number comes from but it depends on whether you think your tax rate in retirement will be more or less than your bracket now.

Rollover and they will take care of selling and buying new funds.

like

Do you currently backdoor Roth? If you don't, you have the option to move them to a traditional IRA...but you wouldn't ever be able to backdoor Roth again without paying income taxes on the whole thing.

Moving them to an IRA would give you full control of the holdings like a brokerage account, you just couldn't withdraw cash without penalty.

I have an interview tomorrow with a recruiter for a federal contractor agency. The position is a data entry support (hybrid) for a bank. They explained the salary $18 and some change, presented benefits, and surface details in the job.

My last full time job paid $21 with an inconsistent schedule while this one is technically salary with full time hours.

Can I negotiate? I'd at least like $20 since this job is a stepping stone for me.

Company is KACE Company/Providencia Group.
