If you are over the income limit and do not qualify for free income tax filings for your 2021 tax return, TurboTax is on sale at certain retailers (Sam’s Club, Target, Costco and a few others) during the month of January. The discount is better than getting it directly from turbotax.com. I was able to get the Premier option at Sam’s Club for $55 for five electronic federal filings and one state return.

My perspective- if that’s what you need to feel comfortable, then no it’s not too much
In this unpredictable pandemic world, having a bigger than usual emergency fund is a good thing. You never know what’s going to happen and it’s always good to have backup cash.
Invest half, keep the other half. Why do you need 50k? Worst case scenario you’d need 3-4k per month, you should only keep 6 months (25k) and let the other 25k work for you in the market.
You can’t give advice without knowing their expenses. If this person has $10k month of expenses then it’s not enough.
If it covers 6-12 months you should be okay. Anything in excess can go to a mutual fund.

I'm not trying to discredit his stance (he has me thinking) by criticising one sentence, but man is this this recency bias: "But the stock market did significantly better during all the other months post-2010"
