If you are a key contributor and/or leading all of those calls, then you shouldn't also be in an individual contributor role (i.e., generating deliverables). If you are an inform or consulted even on many of those calls then you should stop attending most of those calls so you can work.

This was me at my previous job and reason why I left. Unless you block off time on your calendar and clients respect that block, it’s hard to do work during work hours.

Went through this before I left consulting too. Always had to work nights and weekends to get the actual work done cause the whole day was spent on client calls. Talked to manager many times about it and she kept telling me to just say no when the sales ppl want me to join calls (but then we wont get enough projects to hit our targets and then LT gets mad at us and we lose our bonus), or to put off thr actual work til the next day (but then the work just keeps piling up and I have to work 20 hours instead of 15 hours the next day), or to pass it over to the more junior team members (but they were already overworked too and we never trained them properly to do everything cause all the more senior ppl were also overworked and LT wouldn't let us hire more ppl to fix any issue). It was a never ending and terrible cycle.

I have had many people that have transferred into FDD the past 8 months from audit and they end up hating it and keeping the turnover going. Wish the firms actually portrayed what these new consultants are getting into. Hours are more unpredictable, right now you will be working 55 to 60 hours a week probably twice a month. Wish there was more realistic recruiting at this point
