I have 7 years of experience at my Chick-fil-A location, am now in management and am wondering if it’s worth attempting to negotiate to $26/hr (roughly $50k a year) or if the quick service restaurant industry is just doomed to never pay a liveable wage?

The job market is hot. Candidates have the upper hand. I would test the water with other employers. Good luck.

I’m not saying to quit your job right now. But you need to start looking and revamp that resume and find management/supervisor roles. You will make more than 50k

This is strictly from a consumer's perspective so take it with a grain of salt.

Panda Express pays better but you'd be working with a slightly different demographic (re: meaner).

I strongly suggest you transition to fine dining if you have or can develop the persona and mannerisms.

People in the fast food industry aren't getting what they deserve.

I came from working at a coffee chain, and pivoted to temp agencies to get into QA in biotech. You have skills, tailor your resume to the job description. Also try applying for tech apprenticeship.

This ain’t it, manage somewhere else that pays better

Most of the service industry is sadly that way. I’d consider transferring into restaurants/ fine dining you could double that number

I think that right now is the perfect time to negotiate. With the current job shortage your company likely needs you FAR more than you need it, regardless of being QSR.

In a very small market Domino's pay managers 50-55k starting, and I mean a town of 3500 ppl when I say small market. You can definitely do better just don't quit until you have that next job.

I think it’s always worth trying to negotiate, especially if you’re not planning on leaving immediately. You can certainly look elsewhere that will pay more and take advantage of the skills and soft skills you’ve learned, but while you’re there, you should get paid closer to what you’re worth.

Its always worth trying to negotiate. The worst they can say is no. I don't think that is an unreasonable amount to ask for.

I’m on a 6-month extendable contract and my manager really likes me; she always says that they want to convert me ASAP, however they don’t have the budget right now to hire me. They plan to hire me by the end of the year (7-month mark) but that means I won’t get paid for 3 days during thanksgiving and a whole week during December. How can I push for them to make me permanent as soon as possible? This is my first job out of college so I’m not sure how to approach this situation.

Is it possible to ask for too high of a salary during an interview?

I had an interview end early because they couldn't match my salary ask despite me being a "perfect candidate" (their words). The range was the same/lower than what I currently make, and their role was for a more senior position. I gave a highball range but I figured there would be some negotiating. Maybe that company just isn't the right fit for me, but I'm just thrown off by how quickly the call ended after that.

Happy Wednesday!!!!

I’m currently a Recruitment Consultant at an RPO with 4.5 YOE in Toronto. I received a salary raise last year. Recently I had another conversation with my manager for a comp raise. They was able to speak with their higher ups. Unfortunately, I got to know that they wouldn’t be able to increase my pay because of the economy. I’ve been working on heavy req loads and multi projects. But they are signing me up for a leadership program with a potential raise next year. Thoughts?

Have people received inflationary raises? My dad received a letter stating that they’re giving him a 6.5% raise + a one time lump sum of $750 bc of inflation, retroactive to July 1st. He works for a university and is part of a union. Kind of feel like my company is being shady because I work in CRE & we do raises + bonuses in February which was when I was planning to ask for an inflationary raise. But I feel like a lot of companies have done this without having their employees ask?
