I have 9 years of HR experience. 4 years as managing a team. All of this in a same company. Its a small company in Vancouver at about 300 employees/contractors.

I never get a positive response wherever I apply, not getting interview calls. Not sure what am I doing wrong.

I’ve had a 23 year career in HR and have never once received a call or interviews from a job posting I’ve applied to. Not once. I’ve been an Executive for the last 10 years.
100% of the time, my network did the work for me. I managed it closely, ensured I made folks aware of what I needed and what I was interested in. Every single time, I’ve secured my next role by networking and building relationships.

Hiring freezes are evident everywhere. Definitely don't think it's a reflection of your experience or your abilities. Are you sending follow up emails after you apply?

like

My gut instinct was to say to make sure you have all of your listed qualifications on your resume, but I'm sure you already have them. Are you listing all your different roles even though they're from the same organization?

like

With the current job market, it’s a tough and competitive crowd. I would send your resume to trusted peers to get honest feedback. Also, network network network! Reach out to your current network and ask for referrals. Most importantly, don’t give up!

like

If you're not even getting callbacks, then I'd start by analyzing your resume to make sure it's up to par. There could be small, simple tweaks that could make a major difference in your response rate. Feel free to share it here for some constructive feedback.

Apply for companies in Europe, the market is very progressive here for your experience I assume

A hiring freeze would be one of the reasons. I don't think it has something to do with your skills or experience. Did you ask for an update?

If you post your resume here we could help by looking over that. I know sometimes even just a small change makes a big difference.

I think that it can be really hard when you have HR experience in smaller companies without the brand recognition. And honestly they can be some of the best employees. Find a recruiter. Tap your extended network. That is how introductions happen & offers are made. Also reply to the recruiters in your linked in inbox Even in the position isn’t perfect.

Hiring freezes, bad resume, it could be a variety of things. I'd encourage you to post your resume on here so you can get some good feedback that could help!

Hello! There could be a lot of factors that leads to this. For one, hiring freeze. Did you follow it up?

So I recently started a position with Fox. When it was presented to me in interview, I was told I would be working aligned with Fox Sports & Entertainment, not so much News. Now that I’m here, I’m seeing everything I’ll be doing is with the News team & makes me uncomfortable. No diversity, outdated software & process.
Financially, it’s the best position I been in. But mentally in this environment, it’s depressing & slow. Nothing innovative or engaging. What would you do?

I had my PHR back in early 2000, then made a career change to a paramedic (I know, right). I called SHRM and they said I'm eligible to test again even though I only currently have 1.5 yrs of HR.

I purchased the online study guide and it seems that HR has gone in a completely different direction - more operations related than employee relations etc.

Did anyone find this online training to be helpful? I test in July, so any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks - lauren

Hello fellow HR pros! I really need your opinions on HR certifications. I am deciding between PHR and SHRM-cp. I have read just about all there is online comparing the two and can not decide. My heart is telling me PHR, my mother in law (an HRBP) is telling me to go with SHRM, as it’s more widely recognized, more established and a larger network in general. I work for a 350~ company who is growing rapidly through M&A. Passions/interests are compliance, strategic vision, M&A, branding and culture

SPHR exam- has anyone ever been “randomly selected” for an application audit? This just happened to me and the sheer amount of effort that is going to go into collecting all the documents almost makes me not want to follow through. Since I didn’t finish undergrad, they’re asking for a copy of my high school diploma or transcript and that itself is going to be an absolute nightmare to get hold of. Guess I’m not really looking for a solution here, just venting.

I’m taking the SPHR in less than 2 months and haven’t started studying for it. How difficult is it? I’ve been in HR for 20 years and have experienced ALOT in that time, although there are always employee relations scenarios that surprise me! How much do I really need to study for this?
