I have a business idea - a law firm called "9-5 Law LLP" or something similar. What do you think?

"At 9-5 Law, our attorneys prove that you can combine dedication to offering market-leading legal advice while having time for family, friends and hobbies. Our attorneys have experience from top-tier law firms, and we offer all the same corporate law services. Because we believe that we perform better when working normal hours, we take on clients who share our philosophy, and no more clients than what we can reasonably handle within our opening hours. In exchange, you get an attorney with the energy and time to fulfil any need your business may have".

I think maybe 1/3 of people work 9-5 and the other 1-3 does from 5 pm to 1 am and so forth.

“Hi one of our investors just backed out and we need to update the pro-forma and documents before we close tomorrow morning. The lead investor has a wire deadline of 12 pm ET. Will you be able to update the model and documents so we can close tomorrow? As a reminder, we run out of cash as of Monday and won’t be able to make payroll without this.” - sent 7 pm ET Thursday night.

Automatic Reply: Thanks for your email. As you know, we’ll pick up your important request at 9am PT tomorrow and do everything in our power, setting aside a proper 1-hour lunch break, to make it happen for you assuming it can happen by 5pm ET because it’s a Friday!

That’s a lovely thought but surely we all understand that this utopia would have no chance of competing with any biglaw firms over major corporate clients because those clients invariably have needs outside of the 9-5? And that consequently the firm would have to offer significantly lower billing rates and thus would have much lower PPP and much lower salaries - and would accordingly attract only second rate talent?
But this was a fun bit of daydreaming

9 am to 5 am? Guess you don't need to specify if you default to military time.

I think this is totally possible it’s just that you can’t have the kind of client that pays Biglaw rates. Something’s gotta give.

Hey Fishes,
I am a software developer with ~4 years of experience. Recently I joined a coaching for preparation of some good companies like Google Amazon etc.. It is a small coaching class where I get coaching with 6 college students.
The issue is that the teacher we are having here is very strict, he will beat us like small kids and also make us murga for mistakes... At the same time he teaches superb good. Not sure if I should continue with the tution or not.

I am scared of trying accutane but at this point I feel like I have no other choice (topical creams like tretinoin, dapsome are not working!). Is it silly to be so wary of accutane? I guess what scared me is the potential for child defects (but im not pregnant and dont plan to be until next year)… any words of encouragement or success anecdotes you could share?

Hi Friends,
Please advice ,
After a technical and PDM round at IBM , I got mail to upload document for background verification.
Manager in PDM round told he can offer max 20.5.
8 yrs, Azure , databricks ,
Current ctc - 16, Subject to revision by 20% from July 1 but manager told they will not consider future hike .
If I get such low ball offer and put down paper I will not get hike .
Also I feel undervalued with such offer as people having half experience are getting more than that.

What's the protocol for adding internal portal mockups for a client to your portfolio? Is it expected, something that requires asking permission but is still generally OK, or frowned upon? I'm a developer trying to pivot to UX.

Nothing in the contract bc our SOW was originally dev only. If I need permission, I have a good rapport with the Corp Comm director and VP so would I contact them on LinkedIn, or is this something that's normally done through the employer?

Took an interview for a position two weeks ago but have generally heard nothing. Time to move on?

I had a meet and greet on a Tuesday, interview on Friday the same week. Was asked to follow-up with the hiring manager the Wednesday following the interview, which I did and received a short two-sentence response.

This was for a position that I do not have direct experience in but have a lot of experience in many of the domains around it the position. Felt like I knocked it out of the park.
