I have a campus recruiting event next Saturday for 5 hours. This is on top of my project work. Can I charge OT for it? I'm an analyst.

@A1, no you shouldn't. It's volunteer work and should be treated as such.

like

Yeah if you don't want to do it, then don't do it.

No

Eventually Accenture is going to kicked throat punched. Everyone I know works OT and isn't allowed to claim it. And most folks are pretty darn angry about it.

*get throat punched. Although kicked throat punched is probably more accurate.

No, but you should be able to. It's not fair that we can't.

Serious question: it seems apparent some firms openly flaunt OT laws. PwC got crushed by a lawsuit a few years ago. What gives?

Who said you can't? Ask for a wbs.

In this situation wouldn't they just tell you not to come if it's going to put you into chargeable OT?

Exactly what D1 said. Lots of people prepared to volunteer their time for exposure

Charge it! That's why we give you a recruiting WBS

Keep in mind that the overtime is a benefit. I assume all analysts make above the exemption amount.

Don't confuse work OT (should be allowed to charge for analysts) with recruiting OT. If analysts started asking for OT to recruiting events, the firm would just ask SAs and Cs who don't get OT to attend instead

Do you feel like you have to attend, like you will actively be contacted by someone on Monday saying "I wanted you to attend this event, why weren't you there?" Then yes, you should charge it. But if an email went out saying "can we have any volunteers?" And you agreed to it, then no, you shouldn't.

A7 - I agree with you, but just to play devil's advocate - that's not the way it works in other professions. For example, a police office will volunteer for extra hours to push overtime. So do lots of other jobs. How is this different?

Yes, but other professions are a lot more clear when events will be eligible for OT or not. Your example, the policeman know for sure when events are eligible for OT, or they're doing them for free. I agree with the call of your question, though. ACN has a really terrible OT policy for analysts, and they deserve the lawsuit that's coming for them.

Police men and consultants are different. I can counter that example with doctor residents. Some professions don't even bill hours, you just work till the job is done

Agree. Good points all around

Do we know if there is a sponsoring partner that oversees this benefit/ program that I could have more of a heart to heart conversation with? Not getting too far with the general email box and admin contact. However, anything related to IVF or medical procedures has to go through insurance (also limited to $50k lifetime benefit). Continued…
