Yup definitely assess the environment and act accordingly but more times than not consultants appear like perfect robots and doesn’t help when the other person can see through the BS. Do what you gotta do in terms of providing value

Be around him and agree with him on things. If you want to know something, tell him about a problem and see if he gives you advice. People always want to help people. Even if they do it curmudgeonly.
All jokes aside - great point KPMG1. Seems like a guy who’s used to being the smartest person in the room and would respect someone who brings up a great point, even if it means disagreement.

Go deeper. Get past the douche first impression. Does he have family? Hobbies? Friends? Interests? No one you partner with will be perfect, but we have to find something to respect and build a relationship on. Without a sincere relationship, we lose, not them.
