Hello 🐠, anyone has any insight on the Business Transformation Enterprise Architect role with SAP? Is it a technical role or more of a lead one? Is it worth pursuing it if my background is technical but looking into more of a leadership role for the future? or it won't help develop? Thanks!
Most jurisdictions don’t allow you to bill for work done by interns. Check your local rules to see what they have to say about it.
Sorry to clarify. . . It’s work by unpaid interns that you can’t bill for. You can bill for paid interns.
I don’t see why this would be an issue, I’ve done plenty of unpaid internships in college. Maybe you can check with the university if she would be able to claim credits for her experience with you.
She will be receiving course credit, which makes me feel better about the situation.
You should check your states minimum wage and overtime laws. Some states may consider an internship "work" thus requiring you to pay the intern min wage and overtime. This is of course subject to any exceptions from the law.
See if she can get college credit? Maybe it would avoid the payment issues if state law requires payment
We have unpaid interns and externs working for us at various times. We’re in CA and only have them work 4 hour shift, and follow employment law to be on the safe side. Otherwise it’s a great way to get help while mentoring someone.
Yes go directly to their schools. It just depends because we’re in SoCal so we’ll reach out to the ones that have a program but most students who respond to a regular job post site will tell us they need the credit. We assign all sorts of tasks plus mentoring. It can range from drafting motions, proposed orders to researching case law or new area of law. A lot of the times the program will have an attorney/firm guideline and most want the students to do mainly legal work, we don’t give them admin tasks. We’re big on mentoring and explaining why we are asking for this task, how it relates to the case, evaluating their work product, how they can improve etc. Both my partner and I had bad experiences in the past so we try to be helpful to the next generation of attorneys.
