In most cases, I like to offer my logos in packages.
I’ll build a logo, business card design and one other piece of small (1 page) collateral. *No 5 page brochures or anything. And trust me people have tried it*
I also use this site (below) a lot for a general total. It keeps me from low-balling myself, especially because I know my hourly rate. (Based on my years of experience and location) https://thenuschool.com/how-much/
Lots of factors. It’s relative to the value the company gets out of it. If they are small then value matches their margins. I like offering packages, at a fixed cost with differing levels of engagement. Definitely price it as a whole package and explain what they get for that, with anything outside the brief at an hourly rate of x with half day minimums.
People want to invest in professionals, so if your value aligns with their expectation you win. E.g you don’t want the cheapest, you want the right professional at the right price. Don’t be afraid of money. Don’t be afraid of negotiating. Set a price floor and don’t go below it, inAPWAYs have people to recommend who are cheaper if they can’t afford me. Trust me when they sleep on it, they never go for the cheaper person you recommend.
That’s for the client to answer. You should be involved in helping them solve the problem, and providing exports to a vendor. but you need to decide where your own skills are valuable in the process and where they are not.
Check out Chris Do' s discussion about pricing on The Futur. Always good topics. Good information to consider.
The price is relative to the market your in as well. 1k. For a mom and pop job in a small town is fine. But 1k in Manhattan is way to cheap. Offer a package, eg including with consulting strategy all exports at 5k 50% up front. That’s a simple industry standard to go with. They want cheaper, just eliminate rounds of revisions etc
This is helpful thank you.
The above advice is pretty spot on, but you can also negotiate for different things other than money. You can ask for stock or shares in the company, especially if they are a brand you believe in and think will do well. If it’s a product you dig, you can ask for discounts or bulk items. They should still pay you, but you can also fight for extra perks if their number seems low.

I just got a request to do the initial branding for a company (fairly small operation) and I don’t know what to charge. I’ve never led my own project like this, I’ve only worked through agencies prior to this. The brand is looking for a logo + packaging + identity. Any help would be great, thanks everyone.
Or give me the gig and I’ll cut you a percentage 😉
I paid $1000 to a duo in Argentina to do the same for my startup. They’re great and could charge 10000 (though I couldn’t afford them).
