Good point.

I moved 1,000 miles. We lived in a smaller house, so I could get everything in a large uhaul truck. Paid guys 350 to move everything into the truck and another 350 to move it into the new house and drove the uhaul myself. Cost about 1,500 in total, all in. Would do that again rather than messing with professional movers and waiting on their timetable.

Moved 1,300 miles with two kids. Had full service moving..I think it was around 12,000. We were fortunate time the closing of our new place with the move date so no storage needed. School applications are pretty easy...just call the school and prove you bought a house. Honestly the biggest hiccup we had was in not paying enough attention to our new neighbors before we bought!

Save at least $1000 but maybe more for stupid stuff you’ll have to pay for along the way (deposits/fees for turning on things like water/gas/electric, getting drivers licenses, registering vehicles, or early contract termination fees for leaving your old place). Also cash tip for movers both sides. We had storage fees for 2 weeks so different sets of movers. Call day cares ASAP and pay to get on wait list or to register them.

Take time to sell/give/trash as much as you can early in the process. We have so many outgrown children's toys and clothes, plus many things we've acquired over the years but do not use or that we inherited from our parents (much of it just stuff, not heirloom), that the next time we move I'm going to shoot for 50% not moving with us.

I have always taught my students that life is a path of actions and consequences that are a result of those prior actions; positive actions positive consequences, negative actions negative consequences. I change the vocabulary from "I'm giving you a ___" to "You're earning a ___ with your actions." I start my first day with this lesson and have frequent reminders of this throughout the year. This has always been a successful strategy.

Recently I have been exploring a career change but a successful first shot at IUI has me panicking about staying or going. Any lessons learned on how to approach this huge decision?

Been in advertising for 12 yrs and at my agency for 4 in LA. I've been able to add to my book at current job. My chat with a big agency regarding a CD gig will likely result in an offer. The acct I'm interviewing for is more challenging, they have done a couple of award-winning work, but no long track record of it. Book pieces aren’t guaranteed. It's a promotion and a 40% salary jump. Isn't it time to start chasing a bit more money? My book is good, but no major awards. Am I making a mistake?

Hi! I’m not sure if this is the right question but I’d like to be fitter. I’m 230lb and 5’8 so it’s really bad. Because of covid I haven’t gone to the gym, I have 2 weights at home.
