I have a feeling if the Google manifesto were released in our industry, the author would not be fired. Yay 👍 or Nay 👎?

Definitely fired. No doubt

like

First of all there is a lot of truth in that manifesto. That said, whoever wrote it is an idiot. World isn't fair. We all have advantages and disadvantages. Who gives a shit if google wants to hire a bunch of chicks. Your job is to do your job. Companies are fucking cults anyways so don't question your leaders. Eat your free lunch, take a nap in the pod, ship your code and go home. The guy definitely deserves to be fired for being a twerp. Suck it up and deal with all the diversity bullshit. Not because it's the right thing to do (who knows) but because it really doesn't fucking matter if it's the right thing to do.

like

It's a free country so if you don't like our employer's culture go find another employer. Google has the right to execute on whatever stupid cultish fad they want and your ideological bullshit "look at me" manifesto is nothing but the inaudible squawking of a speck of dust on a lonely planet in the Milky Way.

Fired the second a senior banker got asked about it at a client meeting

like

Fired for sure. It's not that complicated - he violated the terms of his employment agreement. He signed that when he joined. As a consequence he got fired.

My position is not agreeing with the manifesto itself. Merely that Finance is a lot more tolerant of that type of bullshit

like

@IBA1 nailed it

This is something you keep private or outside of work, not bring into a professional environment. Why would this be more acceptable than internally disparaging a client? Regardless of whether or not you think the content was "objectively" right or wrong, this was a stupid move.

After 6 years of temporary contracts and unstable situations, I find my dream job in my dream company. All of a sudden the world goes upside down and I get laid off. I start sending hundreds of applications, with only 2 recruiters getting back to me to say I don’t have experience for the job (this is how it works in Italy). Add a terrible health situation in my family and it seems there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. Ugh. 😞

I work on a consulting team at a large software company. I’m a job hopper, around 2 years each at my first and second jobs and a little over a year at this job. I recently found out they’re shutting my team down. We’re not fired, but they’re transferring us to the core implementation team, which has a horrible reputation for malignancy, overworking, and isn’t at all what I was hired to do. How hard is it going to be to for me to find a new job? Should I just stay and try things out? What next?

I’m a new analyst at an IB group. I’ve felt that I’ve done well my first month or two and delivered higher quality work, but I feel that lately I’ve been slipping up the past few weeks given the intensity of the deal as well as having multiple peripheral work streams. It also doesn’t help the second year analyst quit so I don’t necessarily have a resource to lean into. (Cont.)
