I have a first interview with a company I really want to work for tomorrow. I’m in tax. Any tips for the first call with the company’s recruiter?

They’ll most likely ask about your experience and why you’re looking into another role with the specific company. They also might ask you what your requested salary is.

Thank you so much. It’s my first interview since college, so I’m nervous.

Please do never say negative thing about your current job if they will ask you why you are looking. Show that you are a good team player. They will likely ask you a desired or expected salary. You could give some range. When you will get an offer, you will have a chance to discuss it again. Be yourself. Good luck 👍

Thank you. While I’m not happy my job, I’m grateful for my time here. It’s taught me valuable lessons for being a better tax accountant and human being.

Write down some notes before the call, even if they're just bullet points, most recruiters ask the same topical questions you think they'll ask, you don't have to have the best answer, just an organized one. Write down some questions for when they ask for your questions, you'd be surprised how many people "don't have any questions." Always ask a few, just to keep the conversation going, to show them you can form a thought, to leave them with a good impression. God speed

Thank you for your advice!

State the reason why you want to find a new job. And know your expectation of the new job like what do you want to learn. I feel experienced hire is different from campus recruiting, it's like you are interviewing them as well, they want to figure out if you like them too. Two way communication, not only you are selling yourself, they are selling their culture to you as well. Be confident!

Make sure you have a concise and memorable answer to “tell me more about yourself”? Also google the recruiter and find out what they are like. If the volunteer at dog shelter.. and you happen to have a dog. Could be a great item to slide in there. Everyone in this world loves to talk about themselves so if you give them that opportunity you will be more in their good side.

This is perfect. Thank you. My first interviewer volunteers for the humane society.
