Rising Star
One can be a fan of a fictional franchise like Black Panther or anything else without caring much about the real world locations/societies/etc related to those franchises.
For example, I like anime, but I am not in a rush to learn Japanese or go visit random temples in Japan that allegedly contain demons or whatever.
Wakanda is fantasy… let people dream, escape, fantasize in peace.
For those interested, I do think a one-time well-planned visit to somewhere like Ghana (where they know how to cater to tourists) can be a fascinating experience for many Black Americans, regardless of where exactly you’re from. It’s awesome to see the entrepreneurship, cuisine, hospitality of a majority black population.

Omg why do you care 🤦🏽♂️🙄. Let people be

This is social media, Chief. People post whatever they want. Sounds like YOU'RE bothered by my post. Perhaps you feel the need to wield your opinion because you're bowl leader, but you don't have to comment on any of my posts.
Do yourself a favour, don’t bother with that stuff. You’ll sleep easier.
This. File this in “battles not worth fighting.” Lotta those happening now.
Sometimes trauma interferes with identity formation. Maybe he’s experiencing internalized racism. Either way, if he’s your friend, talk to him. Meet him where he is, you know? And then tell him about Akon’s blockchain city, see what he thinks about that!
Pro
😀 I admit I don't know enough about the Blockchain city so I'll have to educate myself first. But thanks for the suggestion.
Could be a couple things. Either cognitive dissonance. Everyone has it for something.
It could also be, if the person is Black American, that he recognizes his history is in America and he really doesn't have connection to Africa. Many Black Americans are not 1st, 2nd, or even 3rd generation Americans; many have much longer history in America. So there is a growing school of thought that BA lineage really is American especially when you have so many generations on this soil.
That sentiment is one that rejects the idea of not "knowing where you come from" because you do know where you come from if you have that many generations in one place.
Reality is he can have a deep appreciation for African & Black representation in media while not relating to or conflating his identity to either or. Try approaching the conversation solely with curiosity and see what you find out about his perspective.

Agreed. There are people who are proud of their heritage and others less so. I know white people who identify as Italian or Jewish despite the fact that their folks came over 100 years ago.
I can't expect many AA to do the same.
Americans 🤷🏾♂️
Pro
I'm from MPLS, MN. Dad taught me about the part of my history I wasn't taught in school.
Now Don’t y’all go labeling all Americans again.
Personally, I wish I could find more about where we came from in Africa. Yt ppl didn’t start recording our ancestors names until after emancipation 🙃
Pro
😀 I've given up on that. With a name like Johnson, I don't think I'll have much luck even if I go the genealogy route.
Y’all stay obsessed with us huh? Anyways…
Pro
Who's the "us" in this case?
Most Black Americans are ADOS which means they’d have BOTH African ancestry and European ancestry if you’re going to make this argument the same can be said for acknowledging their “connection” to Europe. Mind you both Africa and Europe are continents not countries like America so it would make the most sense for them to understand they have a connection with America a country rather than continents especially given the fact their ancestors BUILT it.
My origin story starts during U.S. chattel slavery where my ethnic group emerged.
Jamie Hall
My ancestors were sold by west African slave traders to European merchants by acknowledging a generic “Africa” connection I’d also be including those who sold us as well as acting like it isn’t a continent made up of 54 countries/nations and even more tribes that don’t see themselves as the same people.
I presume it would be the same reason that a large number of Black immigrants think that African Americans just fumbled the American Dream and have absolutely no understanding of the depth of structural racism nor an understanding of how they are positioned as model minorities - ignorance. Everybody is overdue to open a book and attend a therapy session. I dream of a day where we are all more connected in this way.
Lol! Seems, He needs a quick mind reset!
It’s the hype

And what do you mean by "refuses to acknowledge his connection to Africa?" This can mean many things.
Pro
Nobody is forced to do anything, but we know that we didn't fall out of the sky and were not the original inhabitants of this place. That means we came from somewhere.
👀
Let that man enjoy his cosplay.
Unfortunately there are many African Americans that have bought into the brainwash that Africa is this disease ridden godforsaken place. Give him time one day he will have an urge to really understand that king he is and how rich his ancestoral background is. With the way America is not being don't to Black Americans I'm sure he will realize who he really is soon
