I have an immediate family member who is a lifelong addict (pills). I’m struggling with my own addiction (food). You need to deal with the addiction first and the finances second. If you don’t deal with the root cause, it doesn’t matter what budgeting tricks you try. I could do meal prep or food services or any kind of diet, but if I don’t deal with the fact that I eat when I’m stressed or sad and if I don’t find other coping mechanisms, I’ll never win the battle. I recommend all addiction recovery starts with therapy. I have fallen into the same mentality you’re having for the past 20 years. If I just count calories or swear off fast food, I’ll lose weight. But for some of us, it’s mental/emotional hurdles. It’s daunting to deal with the underlying problems. As for paying off debt, start following Dave Ramsey or Suze Orman (whomever floats your boat). They both teach the snowballing method of debt payoff.

Lastly, live really Frugal. Don’t eat out and shop thrift stores. You are in for a hard couple of years, but your debt will be paid. Sooner you do this, the faster you’ll be able to live the life you want. It’s all about discipline.

Store money in a higher interest saving account. For instance, Ally Bank.

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to store my money and how to pay of my credit card? I keep using it to gamble... I don't want to spend anymore... need to pay it off :( Please help. SOS.

Gambling addictions, depending on how bad they are, often not something you can just fix on your own. There are many free hot lines for it. Call some. Definitely consider a therapist. It doesn't seem you're taking out loans to play, which is definitely good, and $17000 in credit card debt is not unheard of without gambling additions. But you need to start fixing it now. Good luck!!
