I’m sorry to hear this, but you acknowledging your issue is a big first step. There are programs that you should look into (Gamblers Anonymous) that have the support system you will need. I can’t give you specific advice on what you’ve asked because 1: I don’t have the experience for that and 2: what you’re asking for is a band-aid, not a solution. Many believe and choose to approach this as a disease, so you need to treat it and yourself. Asking for help is good, seeking help and working on it is the real thing you need to do.

There are also subreddits about personal finance and the systems to control and fix credit card debt like snowballing, etc., but you need to fix the larger issue.

Put your bills on auto pay so you don’t have the chance to use it to gamble. If you have someone you trust, set up another account where majority of your paycheck goes to pay off the debt that you don’t have ready access too.

Also, get help. It is an addiction and there are a lot of other people in your position. Support groups, therapy, etc. 17,500 isn’t that bad, it could be way worse and it will continue to get worse if you don’t get help.

Hey there. First of all, you are taking the first step of admitting you have a real problem and that is huge. The next step is getting professional help as soon as possible. Therapist, group help, whatever you can. They will be able to provide you resources to help you stop these self destructive behaviors. You can work through this. People have come back from worse

I think its great that you can see it so clearly, and I agree seeing/admitting you have a problem seems like a great first step a lot of people never get to until its too late.

Maybe you could set it up with your bank where your paycheck goes into an account that you dont have a card attached to, and it doesnt appear when you sign into the webpage. Set up all your autopay for bills and credit card and other debt to be paid out of there--including an allowance to go into an account you DO have a card and access to. That way you can blow through that money safely but in the heat of the moment, knowing all your other stuff is getting taken care of behind the scenes.

Go to a therapist and ask for help. In terms of money, you can always put it on a savings account and tell your bank that you cannot touch through any method that’ isn’t in person

Get involved with gamblers anonymous ASAP. Then, consider talking to a bank about consolidating your debt into one lump sum with a lower APR then a credit card. Good luck!

Get to a GA meeting. As in tonight. Look up your local chapters rooms. I know from experience this gets worse unless you work to arrest it. Look up the GA twenty questions. See if you answer yes to more than 7. If so, you're an addict.

It's okay to not be okay. There's always room for redemption. Therapy is just what we do when our emotions and thoughts are in pain. It's the same as going to the doctor when your body is in pain.
