I am currently working in advertising with experience on fintech & CPG. I would like to work in tech marketing, specifically Google’s APMM program.
I’ve been studying some PM/PMM books/podcasts/videos, attending Google events, and want to keep learning more to try to prepare myself as much as I can.
What resources helped you get into product marketing/Google?
Has anyone here moved from advertising to tech?
Would love to hear from a marketer about their experience getting into Google.
Thank you
Referrals help in terms of a human reviewing, but that’s it really. No weighted difference - obviously if they know people on hiring committee may be different but pretty unlikely
The referral form also asks how well you know the applicant, to give a short free form description, etc. It definitely helps getting pulled from the resume pile for a screener, but I think it is also included in the HC packet. Probably would have more weight if a Director said they know you super well and think you’re awesome, versus a L3. I had lots of applications w a referral where I did not get a screener, so it’s not a guarantee.
I referred someone that I thought was qualified but HR disagreed. A referral is great, but your resume still needs to be stellar.
