I have a manager from another team who micromanages nearly everything I do. She seems to intentionally question my work and throw blame on me in front of other coworkers when it’s unwarranted. Unfortunately, I’m left trying to defend myself on a regular basis. HR and my manager have been involved, but the manager’s behavior stays that same. What can I do to help get the target off my back?

I’d recommend reaching out to YOUR manager. If you don’t report to her, you need to loop in the manager you do report to. As a former project manager, part of our role is shielding our team. If the other manager’s critiques are applicable, your manager should frame them in a constructive way to your team. Typically managers have some sort of “managers meeting” regularly so I’d recommend asking them to address her and welcome her feedback in that setting and relay relevant information back to you that way

My manager does meet with this manager regularly to discuss ways we can improve working relationships and “asks”. Most of the time, my manager comes out of those meetings with none of her solutions being valued and more requests from the other manager on how our team should be operating.

On many occasions, the other manager will go directly to my manager’s boss to complain about our team prior to coming to us.

I have only been in my role 2.5 months, but it feels like this other manager is already trying to push me out.

No, she is also female. My own manager is female too.

As someone in HR, document, document and document. Keep track of the actions the manager does, the conversations you’ve had with your manager raising it to their attention and your conversations with HR. Keep a record so if no action is taken you can follow up and show proof that you’ve raised the issue multiple times and no action has been taken. The HR person needs to do their job, it’s called corrective action. Also wherever you work see if you have a respectful workplace policy and if you do see if it includes a retaliation section.

Have you considered whether the manager’s behaviors fit in the definition of a harassment at workplace? If so, it is illegal and your HR should immediately take action against the manager’s behaviors. Also, if so, this person can be personally liable for the consequences of workplace harassment in certain states.

Have you been fired before even starting your new job?

I signed for a new job two months ago and will start next month (3 mo notice period in Europe). They were very keen on getting me on-board ASAP before signing but since I signed the contract it has been silent from the new employee. I've emailed them with questions as I'll be re-locating to NL and it takes them 1-2 weeks to reply. Given all that's going on in the world, I'm worried they might fire me before I even start.

What is the advice on what feedback to leave for a peer who really sucks at everything y'all have worked together on? I have two employees (they are in a relationship) that are both being terminated for various performance reasons. Will experience in a big 4 make a difference even if it's just 1 year?
