Tbh one week notice isn’t going to burn as many bridges as you think. Unless you’re project is really under the gun and every day counts, just give a week. People will forget in the long run, and if they’re still petty about something so small after years better to avoid them anyways
I’m not certain this is true. I’m a boomerang and a status they checked prior to my return offer was whether I left in good standing, one criteria of which was giving 2 weeks notice (+ no balance on corporate card etc).
So to clarify, I believe they track this in your file in case you look to return in the future.
Not sure why you didn’t just ask for the extra week when initially asking tech company for later start date. But yeah, unfortunately don’t submit notice until bonus hits your account. If you are close to your team you can hint that you may pursue other opportunities soon (no actual timing specified) and start working on a transition plan in the background. That way you can leave your team in a better spot while still looking out for yourself.
My initial plan was to give a two week notice since I thought being employed was enough to collect on the bonus but heard from a few folks that the bonus is not credited during notice or that employment is terminated immediately.
How much is bonus? Depending on amount might be worth waiting or worth asking new company to include sign on bonus in place of the EY bonus
I’m in the same position and the other B4 happily moved my start date to 9/15. I specifically said I wanted to get paid out on my bonus since I wouldn’t be eligible for a bonus from them until 2023
I would go back to the tech company and tell them that if you leave early, you will be losing on bonus of let’s say 10K. As such, can you either push my start date for few weeks or include this in sign on bonus and I can join on the given start date.
If they include in the sign on, then put the notice to the max late date possible and hope you get the bonus from both companies. Not sure what level you are but you can totally do one week or notice.
I'd think you'd still be eligible for bonus if you are with EY on the 26th - regardless whether you had submitted your resignation or not.
The only question is if they may ask you to leave immediately instead of waiting for 2 weeks. But I think that happens mostly when you leave for a competitor.
A friend of mine had her last day on the day the bonus was paid out and she still got it.
Don't put in your notice before the bonus is in the bank.
Pro
Just waitBb
The tech company should be able to push back your start date and be understanding. If they’re not willing to, you can try to negotiate it into your signing bonus. There’s always a chance that EY let’s you go same day and then you’re without your bonus
Recruiters are used to this. Why did you push back the first time? Context please
Can you push back the start date?
Thank you
Always ensure bonus hits account before leaving
If you are not a manager or above, a week notice is probably fine. Check your contract to make sure there aren’t any specific terms for how much notice you have to give. But honestly, if they tell you that you have to put two weeks, just don’t show the second week. What are they going to do, fire you? Lol
Again, notice period Iis LITERALLY impossible to enforce.
You on a travel project or WFH? Also, is your new role remote or in-office? Is it possible to overlap that first week?
No it is in office , so the overlap is not possible.
Y'all are nuts. The amount was communicated already. It will be paid if you quit today with zero notice.
Yes, I assure you it will.
That’s what the sign on bonus is for.
Pro
So you would only have a week of overlap? Book some vacation for the week of overlap. Then put in your two weeks notice once you get the bonus
You can’t take vacation on notice period. Your manager could cancel any time off.
Sunce it is announced and we even got an official letter, you will get paid if you are employed on that pay day. Why not make your last day on Monday? After submitting papers, check with HR and move the day to Friday?
