I would not stay outside the city. You have no idea what you're getting into. Stay in the city especially if you're an American.
Sharjah is an extremely conservative emirate. Are you a girl? Be prepared for unpleasantness if you dress like a Westerner.
35 minutes might not feel like a lot but you are already going to be doing a lot of driving in Dubai as it is because everything is spread out. I'd stay in the city.
Sharjah is horrible, don't stay there. (1) Traffic between the two emirates (cities) is worse than LA traffic. (2) There is absolutely nothing to see in Sharjah. (3) no alcohol/hookah allowed in Sharjah.... you're pretty much not getting the Dubai experience if you stay there. Are you staying there for the cheaper hotel?
Was just in Dubai in Sept. I agree you should def stay inside the city for three reasons: 1.) Even though Dubai is westernized, you're still an American and the world pretty much hates us right now. 2.) You're going to miss out on the cool city vibe that you definitely want to experience while there. 3.) Renting a car is a pain in the ass. Why would you even want to deal with that?
I lived in Sharjah for almost all of my life. So here's the deal:
As others mentioned, Sharjah is a different world then Dubai. Don't expect to be able to do things there that you would in Dubai. Traffic between the two cities is an absolute disaster. You can rent a car but trust me, doing simple things like that is more of a pain than here. My suggestion would definitely be to try to stay in Dubai. If you can't, then consider just cabbing there and back (expensive: yes, but that's what I would do).
Oh yes, things are extremely conservative there as someone else mentioned. This is definitely an issue if you're a girl, so again I would seriously consider just staying in Dubai.
Stay at Grosvenor House or Sheraton by the Creek... but not in Sharjah
Lolwat. Best beaches are in Dubai, buddy. JBR beach, jumeirah beach hotel/burj al Arab area for the iconic spot, blue marlin Ibiza for more beach/party, the palm, etc
Sharjah is a different city. May be far, I think?
OP - you've basically elected to stay in Philadelphia when visiting NYC. It's that different and that complicated logistically. I would not recommend you visit dubai if you don't want to stay in dubai.
Well, sounds like there's a consensus...
Plan changed.. I am staying 3 nights in Sharjha to enjoy the beach and 2 nights in Dubai to enjoy the party
Trust everyone here in saying there is NOTHING to do in Sharjah. Even the people that live there commute to Dubai daily for socialization. Source: lived in Dubai for 20 years
With your 3 nights in Sharjah, you're restricted yourself to the hotel's beach and you'll be bored the rest of the time. Why not do the same in Dubai so you can go to the beach during the day and still have stuff to do in the evening/at night?
The hotel is 35 mins away from Dubai downtown
The hotel has some really great reviews and the property is beautiful with 2 private beaches
Yes. It's a very large place. You will see desert except downtown.
Sharjah cant be much less expensive than staying in Dubai. You should change your plans. There are many hotels in dubai from reasonable to ultra luxurious.
As someone else who grew up in Sharjah. Sharjah is a lot (a lot lot) cheaper than Dubai. @OP you'll find Sharjah incredibly boring, if you can't stay in Dubai then consider just cabbing there ever day
I grew up in Sharjah and commuted to Dubai for school and work. If you are there for a longer time then staying in Sharjah and renting a car from the airport might just be fine. You will need to get an international drivers license from AAA or other agency before you go (easy to do). I rented a car in my last visit and liked having it because I also went to Abu Dhabi for Ferrari world. Traffic can be very annoying between Sharjah and Dubai in peak hours so if you avoid that it is doable. Goodluck Op
