B/c companies don’t want to give raises w/ promotions so they hand out titles instead.
It's a way to get people paid more or less. But the most useful thing about it, IMO, is it signals seniority to clients who don't know agency titles. Some clients are really into titles, and they like knowing their teams have "senior" attention, usually denoted by having VPs and above. It's a terrible mentality but probably exists because their own corporate cultures value said titles, and those titles mean more in industry than they do at agencies.
Sometimes partnership which means a stake of the profits. Vp without partnership is a meaningless title
It used to mean a lot more because there were perks that came with SVP and VP status, like bonuses and stock options. Now I honestly feel like it’s just another pay grade.
