Is Facebook (Meta) lowballing? I have 11 years of consulting and industry experience. I recently interviewed for a Program Mgr role. FB continued to interview me knowing I was looking for an IC6 role (TC $300K). Midway through the interview process, they came back saying this role has changed and they can only hire an IC5 and are offering $230K. I am an M4 currently and last year I made about $210K. What’s your suggestion on how to counter this?
Thanks Julius, very helpful
Thank God it’s Thursday!!! PTO tomorrow. 😀

Can i get few likes for DM? thanks
Not really needing a referral, but last Thursday I got a call from BlackRock More like I missed a called. It was around 5:30 on Thursday and I was just away from my phone. No voicemail. Number came from their main office at the NY HQ. Someone can just look up the number on their website. I’m convinced it’s a recruiter for a position I applied to (one of several) but without the voicemail and no answer when I called the number back I’m not sure what to do. Any advice? Any blackrock HR out here?
Can I get some likes please!!! I’m new here
Not in NYC at the moment but tell your son not to lose hope and no company is too small a company, even if it's a 15 person company.
Personal experience, I interned at very small companies as international student, so chances were even more slim (got rejected only cause I was an international student). Slowly got into a part time internship at a multinational company last semester and then Big 4 job on month before graduation. Was only up from there.
Senior year, applied to 115 jobs with tailored made resumes, 50 interviews, 35 super days and only 2 offers.
Any compensation. 3 years down the line of one of my interviews, I was helping my interviewers getting jobs at big4 due to layoffs at their companies.
So perhaps another source of motivation and importance of keeping in touch with people.
Also look into internships in data analytics!
most of these seem open to applications. not sure about the other firms but there is Citadel, BlackRock, and Goldman Sachs…just keep applying it’s really all you can do.

Thank you. Aside from salvaging this summer, he is looking to 2023.
Rising Star
Crazy that even internships are currently this hard to land. Is he looking for a specific role? If not, have him focus on data analytics or cybersecurity internships. These are very valuable fields that get shunned by the finance bros (not that your son is one) that are not as lucrative at first, but lead to bigger careers down the road and are increasingly in demand.
My fiancee was being paid in trident gum as an operations analyst. She is now in cybersecurity with three years of experience and is bombarded with messages from recruiters that are offering 120k minimum, even going as high as 175k.
Yes it’s been tough. I will share your advice. He was interviewing in risk and corporate banking to name a few directions. Thanks again
Do you have a Financial Advisor? Could he work with them for a summer? It would be an interesting time to see how some of the economic theories match up against the real world. Also, eye opening to see and hear from some of those market participants that are assumed to be 'rational actors'.
I think you're going to need to find some personal connections or smaller shops most every large corporate internship program has likely been filled for months.
If nothing else maybe he can do one of those coding boot camps it's not a traditional internship but it would be a great skill combination to have.
Thanks for the advice. He is doing Bloomberg training this summer.
I was interviewing for my interns this summer back in January…he may just be late to the game. I think most internships started right after the spring semester ended to get in a full 10 week program before the fall semester.
He had been applying to positions since last Fall. As noted he had several interviews and very close but no cigar. The problem is you don’t know your competition.
