I have a straight-A student who is 2 points away from an A in my class (after grading her midterm exam). Should I give her the A or would giving her exactly what she has earned teach her valuable lesson?

If they work their tail off day in and day out and they are that close then I would give it to her! 💜

Give her what she earns and if that is 2 points from an A then so be it.

Do you let students make up points on tests? I have always said, take the ones you got wrong, explain why it was wrong and why the right answe was right and I'll give you the points. I want them to learn the material. If she wants the A, let her work for it.

This is an interesting approach. Thanks for sharing.

Follow your heart ❤️. I have extended that grace before for students. I always think about the times a teacher did it for me. It just has to be something that YOU feel is right to do. Either way.

It is your call. With that said, I would not give her the “A” because that is what you’d be doing, giving it to her. For those that earned an “A”, it isn’t fair to them. Also, you are setting a precedent that close to an “A” is good enough in your class.

I got a C in chemistry because I kept coming to class, asking questions, and trying. I botched every lab and failed every exam...does she deserve the A or ???

I cannot tell what you teach so my answer is vague. Has she completed all work in the class? Did you do the test item analysis to see if there were questions that everyone else missed too? What defines an A student to you? If she qualifies under these questions, give her an A. Scores are a way to figure it out, not the concrete course to who is A who is B. I have students with 59.9 I don’t give a D because they never took a Test. Or 69.9 a C because they didn’t do any assignments and retook the tests at home. Whatever you decide, talk to the student after the break to let her know how you determined her grade.

Two points or two percent? Two points, yes. Two percent, no.

I am watching the RNC convention after watching some of the DNC convention last week. They are opposite. It does seem to me that RNC is much less negative and alive. DNC was brutal & came across as fake due to the prerecorded events. If this convention continues like this I expect Trump to pick up a couple points. I prefer positive politics over negative from Biden.
