How old? What goals have you been working on?

6 years old, number and letter recognition, and writing his name

no how do I get information about these

Have you tried discrete trial training?

It is a teaching method based on ABA. I have used it to successfully teach letter/letter sound acquisition as well as number acquisition. Students can respond expressively or receptively. For example, I would present a flash card with the letter A and either ask the student “What letter?” or “Touch A”. (If a student is receptively learning I would utilize a distractor card). This is repeated a predetermined number of times, clearing the field each time and then placing the card in front of the student. Prompt the student as necessary, beginning with the least assistive prompt and increase assistance as necessary. You record the students response on a data log and you can include a prompting level (hand over hand, verbal prompt, gesture, etc.) The difficulty increases as the student becomes more proficient by adding cards to the field that the student has already mastered. You can find resources for this method on Teachers Pay Teachers.

Additional Posts in Special Education Teachers

Hello Teachers! I hope all of you are doing well to the start to the new school year. I’d like to ask those of you who are California special education teachers a question. IEPs service minutes lunch snd breaks being included in daily minutes.
64,800 min. are required number of service minutes per year( for grades 9-12), you divide that by 180 ( 180 school days) = 360. In those 360 minutes of their day ;lunch & break is included correct? I mean some students have that as goals in there IEP. Help

I started the school year with a class of 12 self-contained students (FR and SF mixed class) math class. Slowly, but surely, my roster bubbled to 17. Since we are all virtual instruction, I said to myself, it's OK. Now, we learned we are going back to the classroom in March, and my room is very small, set for 12 students max? In addition, I only have one teacher's aid, who just told me that she is dyslexic and can't help me too much. I am getting nervous as the days go by! Any suggestions?

Is anyone else who works in SPED dealing with students who are coming to school sneezing + coughing, cannot consistently keep masks on, and don’t understand social distancing? I absolutely used to love what I do but I’m feeling extremely anxious about guidelines not being followed within these groups. I am high risk and so are my family members. I don’t know what else to do and it might be time for me to go, but I would miss my students so much. I’m feeling stuck! Please tell me I’m not alone?

I’m an Inclusion Teacher in an elementary school. My role is to support special education students in the general education classroom. I’m struggling how to provide the service due to social distancing protocols. In the past I could sit next to the students or bring them to a back table to work on skills. With the extra furniture in the room removed, this won’t be possible. I will also have students working remotely from home at the same time. Any suggestions or ideas?

Sometimes you just have to laugh at our situation. We have a more challenging life and work experience than so many people, but we're also so blessed in so many ways. I have to say though, dwindling parent support this year has really been a challenge. I know everyone is stressed but I am feeling a little dumbfounded by some treatment I've received. How do you deal with unsupportive parents without getting worked up? My hands are tied
