What is your favorite read aloud?
I taught a special day class for students with Autism. We were putting our strengths on a bulletin board. One of my students asked if he could put Autism up. I said “Absolutely!” Autism comes with its own strengths and weaknesses. I tell students with IEP’s “Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, we just happen to know what yours are.”
Tactfully!!!!! Explain that this child could have easily been one of their brothers! Ask them how they would feel if the shoes were on their feet. I would also explain that this child is so special that his family was chosen to raise him because of how special they all are! Let’s see how the discussion changes afterwords!
