I have always had a not so great, maybe even poor, attention to detail. Honestly, I can’t even tell where it comes from, but I have tried to correct it and have never found enduring success. I’m much better at business development, PM, etc. but god save the queen if I ever need to write a legal memo or do a forensic audit.
Anyone else in this boat? What’s the point at which you’ve seen this hold people back?

I've noticed that I make the most mistakes when i have too much to do so I rush through things. Prioritizing work helps a lot. This way I set aside time to give projects that attention they need.

I was in the same boat when I was overwhelmed by having too much on my plate. Prioritizing tasks in order of importance or due date helped me a lot!

I have always been a person that prefers the big picture rather than the details. I had to learn to pay attention to details to keep going up the corporate ladder. Tasks took me longer until I developed a system, but I recommend having a check system.

How can you be good at BD, PM if you can't pay attention to details

Because I put controls in place - those really have been my guardrails

I don't know why but keeping a checklist helped me remember tiny details. I almost always overlook them so I tried this strategy and so glad it helped me manage everything better.

I love me a checklist. Agree how useful it is!

I used to be outstandingly bad at details. Then as a manager I was put on a data reconciliation project with freshly minted grads as team members. I went through hell - but i discovered that if i want I can focus and do very detailed stuff. It was more to do with focus and patience.

Now as a partner occasionally pick up datasets which my team has worked on a redo some tests to keep my practice. I also diligently review my MIS and not just rely on it.

I still hate detailed stuff. But it's just another mental muscle that needs to be developed and exercised.

Here is some of the best I have heard « separate your emotions from the outcome. If you did your best and set everything you could for the outcome to be successful, the next steps may be beyond your controls so take a step back »

Genuine qs to partners here. Between B4/ACN, is there any firm in particular where making consulting partner/principal could be easier? I know the cliche answer is NO but looking for opinions/experiences that may say otherwise.
