It seems like 9/10 consultants would give their first born for a faang exit. Make of that what you will…

And here I am trying to move into faang! If you want consulting maybe aim for strategic consulting firms like McKinsey, Bain, BCG rather than Big 4. You might regret moving to big 4….the pay doesn’t justify the hours.

likehelpful

Unless you work at the genius bar, don’t . Otherwise send me your resume, I’ll refer you for the bonus

likefunny

Don’t let the haters dissuade you too much. I started my career in big 4 and worked there for many years before leaving. I learned a lot and had a great experience. It’s a different set of skills I think than what you probably get in FAANG but if you’re looking to make a change, you can probably use your expertise to pivot into a good big4 role

I went from Deloitte to industry and am now actually interviewing at Amazon, so we’ll see. When I left Deloitte I got a small but modest bump. Would expect a significant bump if I switch to Amazon

I’m from a big 4 and currently working for Apple as client. Trust me dear - don’t switch. I’ll take an offer from Apple in a heartbeat .

It depends (<— classic consulting answer). If you want to travel, work for multiple clients, and get to explore different industries, there is no better field than consulting. Just beware the hours/pay/corporate perks may not be as good. I personally love working in B4 consulting and they all have good tech strat practices. Also worth looking at MBB if you want slightly higher pay scale but rough hours. Like people have said here, a lot of people who start in consulting hope to end up in FAANG/other industry jobs, but I also know a lot of people who have left impressive industry roles to do consulting. It may be a little bit of “grass is always greener” syndrome but all of our careers also wind in different directions. Choose your own path and the experiences that will make you happy. And no, it’s not unheard of to go from tech to consulting. Lmk if you find yourself applying to Deloitte and best of luck :)

I was looking at big 4 coming from finance because I really disliked my job. But then tiktok kept showing me vids of how awful it was and how current big 4 employees really dislike it… so I noped the f outta there

If you wanna be business man and learn soft skills, I actually think big 4 is a better plAce to be.

Let’s take a step back here. KPMG1 🤣🙂

Come take my job and Deloitte and give me yours at Apple.

Not a lot of glamorous traveling currently / in the foreseeable future.

Each person’s career path is different, and sometimes it takes a few twists and turns to finally find the right path. Personally, Big 4 was a stepping stone, grateful for the experience and it helped me get to where I am now, but would never go back though.

I worked for Accenture, PwC, and BDO and then worked for a startup. Almost worked at Deloitte two different times as well. All within ten years out of college. Pay was great. Projects were usually horrible. Management all miserable and unhappy. A lot of the work was sort of staff augmentation. Lots of “don’t reinvent the wheel” stuff, I felt like a robot. Even worked in a basement office with no windows with about 15 other consultants. Most of the consultants get that way. First project out of college was to streamline billing subsystems to support the firing of 60,000 FTEs to rid manual touch points. Next was sap implementation which we were always behind schedule and working around the clock, even over night. Next Sarbanes Oxley - pre-audit (audit is the most boring activity ever), PMO - worked 2 hour days to set up a project report for client executives (management was unhappy and extremely rude), then business process improvement (interview and document jobs and make them better - but the staff you interview thinks you will have them fired). I also did a contract rollover - that was fun. I wouldn’t leave Apple. Now I own my own financial practice and instead of billing to make my partner rich I feel like I’m making a difference in my clients life/future and most of the money goes in my pocket, not a partners. Completely flexible arrangement now.

I think lots of people would be willing to “job trade” you to get to work for Apple!

Don’t do it

Yale SOM (no $) or Johnson with a full ride? Goal is consulting (not MBB or bust but MBB is the target) in New York City. Will have to take out nearly full tuition loan for Yale. Concerned about Johnson’s strength in consulting placement even for T2; seems to have mixed reviews. Could also reapply this fall and add Tuck and Kellogg to the mix but unsure if it’s worth the risk as this fall may be very competitive.
