Yes I relate, although I’d probably articulate it differently. My self esteem issues and insecurity are independent of how successful I become and how attractive / fit I am. But on the flip side I relate a lot of my self worth to my job and the money I make. All of this has driven me to be a high performer. But I’m definitely not optimizing my life for happiness.
In other words, I’m a pretty typical investment banker
Are you me? I completely feel this way too. On paper my life is great, but I suffer from poor self esteem often. What helps for me is practicing mindfulness - staying present in the current moment and not worrying about what more you could be doing. Also trying to stop negative thoughts in their tracks and replacing them with positive ones (which I know can be difficult to do)
Also, have you read the book 101 Essays that will Change the Way You Think? It really helped change my perspective and made me feel more content with my life.
Hope you feel better soon!

This “feeling like crap” is what propels you to move forward and up in life. The anxiety is what drives success. A happy and content person will not grind out those endless long hours at an intense job. You cannot realistically shut off part of your identity.
True, its a double edge sword and you gotta take the good with the bad
Ppl tell me that I'm successful and i guess compared to "normal" ppl I am, but the type of ppl on this app (consultants, bankers, etc) are people with drive and determination to be the absolute best so they would benchmark themselves to the best of the best not average ppl
Comparing to these ppl makes me feel like I'm not doing enough and imma failure
Has anyone else felt this way? Really hard to talk to ppl about this since I know objectively my life is pretty good
If you put so much self worth into work yet are still unhappy in your prestigious job, go build something for yourself.
You’ll either know 1) you can do it 2) you can’t.
Then, you’ll either have to readjust how you value your self worth, or be happy that you succeeded.
You are defined by your job and the rat race. That’s why you feel this way
