You should not let your pregnancy affect your desire for a promotion. The 2 are not related and if you do apply and are not considered for the promotion and it’s due to your pregnancy, well that’s a discrimination issue. Always follow your career dreams no matter what stage of your life you are at.
I agree! I received a promotion while on maternity leave. I came back ready to hit the ground running.
My coworker joined the firm and went on maternity a few months later. Then, she came back and in a few months went for a promotion, got it and shortly thereafter, went out with baby number 2. The staff was put off but management just dealt with it - as they should. She’s back now and still doing great.
Go get promoted!! No shame my love.

You should apply for the promotion. Maternity is just for a few months and you worked hard till now and earned it. I think pregnancy should not get in the way of your promotion. All the best to your promotion and congrats on your pregnancy!!
Thank you! FTM so it’s all new for me!
Go for it! If anything your little one will make you work even harder. After it's done you will look back and be thankful. I think in this day of age, it's normal to see women take more responsibility with children. You have it never doubt yourself.
For sure apply! Have you read Lean In? This is a large topic discussed and the basis was you want to be in a higher position before you leave for mat leave and you excel faster. Don’t let your pregnancy get in the way!
I have not but it looks like I need to! Thanks for the suggestion!
Definitely put yourself in the running! Don’t self-select out based on your pregnancy, unless it’s something that you don’t think you want to take on along with the new arrival. If you want it, go for it! And I agree - read Lean In if you’re haven’t already. I read it after my first was born and it gave some great insight and perspective, unrelated to pregnancy too! I leveraged it in a follow up email to an interviewer for a potential promotion of mine in the past. I didn’t get that particular promotion, but he remembered me for a different role and asked me if I wanted it based on the previous interview (I didn’t even have to interview that time - it was just given to me).
Net, net - it never hurts to interview for any role you’re interested in. You get great exposure, build your network and even if that one doesn’t work out, it might be a stepping stone to something down the road.

I got promoted when I was 8 months pregnant and delivered a baby when my new role kicked in. Pregnancy shouldn’t be a deciding factor rather your performance.
Absolutely apply. Periodt.
Do it! Good luck!
