I have an FP&A offer at a place I really want to work at and could see myself there for a long time. It’s senior level and pays pretty good. I’ve always thought about TAS and the firm said they will move me there if I stay. Should I stay with the firm and move into TAS? The salary is about the same to stay and I could make manager next summer. Completely torn.

I think this all depends on what you want to do 5 years later. Do you see yourself in a more M&A role or would you rather do the FP&A route? Industry is known to be slower on career growth with a bigger salary bump. If what they are offering you is lower than TAS, then that does not sound very attractive.

Doing TAS will give you better exposure to a more broad client base and view into interesting cases. Doing FP&A may give you more reasonable hours during certain pockets of the year. If I were you I would need a much bigger salary bump to jump into industry.

For a personal perspective, I have moved to industry from a KPMG manager position and had a 40% increase in base salary alone.

Hey guys, I was a manager within the valuations group and exited to become a senior manager in corporate development. Do note that this is a very unusual case. These corp dev roles are notoriously difficult to break into for non-IB or PE background.

But I was pretty determined to go this route and it did take me a while to land this role. I have a lot of colleagues who went into FP&A and managing portfolio valuations for large PE funds.

FP&A sounds like where your heart is and it’s a great exit opp, but I’m not sure the money is there in this case? I left at manager for FP&A and got a 35% bump over my manager comp. I’d say go get the TAS notch on your belt for a year or two, hit manager, then bail for something awesome. Getting those titles / experience before you jump seems best for your long run.

There are many parts of a transactions process, diligence (FDD) being one of them. A client may want legal diligence (think monsanto merger), tax guys, analytics people, strategy people (e.g. parthenon), integrations people, divestiture people, etc.

After one interview, I tried to withdraw my candidacy due to the salary being lower than expected. Shortly after the hiring manager contacted me to inform me that they accidentally gave me the wrong salary range and invited me to come back for a second interview. I delightedly agreed and the second interview went very well, BUT I haven’t heard anything back yet. Did I accidentally kill my chances by withdrawing too soon then deciding to come back?

Hello Sharks,

I have been working for a Jaipur based Digital Marketing Agency for 2.5 years now. Overall I have 5 YoE in the industry.

I tired to switch the company for Growth & Learning, Got 60k + WFH offer. My current company matched the offer (60k + WFH). The company helped me a lot in my bad times (Covid, Mom's illness, my operation etc).
Can I think of switching the company after 6 months and expect 90k-100 from the next company?

Our firm is growing fast and we need to add another attorney to keep up with the work. Our compensation package is 20-30% higher than what others firms in our area are offering. However, I’m still finding it difficult to get qualified associate to even apply for the position. I think part of the problem may be because we are located in a mid-sized city rather than a major metro area. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to attract talent when you are a newer small firm in a mid-size market?
