I have an initial interview with partners at Thompson Hine in the Real Estate practice group. Can anyone shed some light on what I should prepare for?

Tom Coyne loves wine and golf and completely lacks interpersonal skills. He pretty much always seems like he would rather be doing anything but talking to you. That will not change after you start. Interviews at TH are pretty low key and if you can get the partners talking, the subject usually switches from work related topics to hobbies and interests pretty quickly. They are looking for a personality fit as much as skills. That being said, be prepared to talk about your experience as a real estate attorney. ie. Big projects you have worked on and your role on said projects.

Thank you so much 🥹 this was amazing advice. How many rounds of interviews are there?

Depends on the position. Based on what i know about TH‘s current staffing needs, you are likely interviewing for a staff atty position doing cell tower work. If that is the case and you had an interview with the partners, there is probably only one. You will prolly recieve an offer or rejection in the next week or so. That work is soul crushing and the client is mean and unreasonable, but it gets you in the door at a good cleveland firm, pays well, is fairly flexible, and enables you to lateral to an associate position elsewhere in the next few years. Good luck. Let us know if you get an offer.

Keep in mind that if i am right about the position you interviewed for, they will never make you an associate. There is a caste system at TH. Staff attorneys almost never transition to partner track.

Okay! Thank you so much. I don’t have any familiarity with cell tower work but I will read up on it for my interview. Yes, I’m looking for a good foundation of a firm and I know TH provides such, so I’m stoked about the opportunity. Next question, I currently live in DC but all the interview is for the Cleveland office, an Associate position, so you think I would be able to sit in the DC office and work or even the Atlanta office, I know they have strong RE practice in that office.

Okay! Thank you! I appreciate the insight.
