I have an interview tomorrow and I’m having a hard time getting nervous and prepared for it. I know the role well and the company pretty well, but surely could do more to prepare. Anyone prefer going in relaxed? I’m like making myself anxious about not being more anxious... if you have any simple abbreviated tips or ways to prepare that make you feel ready for an interview (industry job btw) I would love to hear them

But seriously, when I’m interviewing candidates and hear a prepared answer I cringe. It’s like the people who memorized flash cards in high school vs having the natural ability to grasp the material and figure the rest out on the fly intuitively. Nobody wants to hire the former vs the latter.

like

This is comforting and appreciated. The interview is a multiple hour thing so I don’t really feel like over preparing and memorizing would benefit me after the first hour or two. Of course I can still think about answers and stuff but don’t want to be scripted

Don’t prepare. Shoot from the hip. Whatever happens, happens. If its meant to be, you’ll get it.

I am a Manager at a big 4 international tax considering switch to M&A Tax in another big 4 or a prestigious firm International Tax group but with more structure work. Which one is better for a long-term plan (~2 years) of going to private with a mid/upper management position that is not compliance oriented? As for me, I was heavy on compliance until recent and wanted to focus on getting planning experience and management skills forward. I am a CPA and an attorney, but not a JD.

What’s the best way to include a new role on your resume that does not begin until next summer? I’m asking this because IB recruitment is in the spring, and I thought it would be meaningful to include it. I am mainly curious about the bullet points. Would it be valid to not have any or to just have one that says something like “Accepted offer on Nov”?

Average time between interview and offer? If long (over a month), should you assume the opportunity is dead in the water?

How do you evaluate the financial health/viability of a startup you’re interviewing with? Are there specific questions you ask and/or external research you do? I know any company will put its best foot forward during interviews, so I’m trying to figure out to accurately evaluate those statements.

I’m contracting with a company in an admin role, but sometimes I’m asked to do projects that would normally be outsourced to a marketing or design company like designing a flyer for example. It’s not in my job description, but I have the skills to do this work and so why not ask me to do it? Is it out of the question to ask if I can be paid for that work under a separate fee as a consultant or something? Is that even possible?

Should I renege offer from MBB?

An MBA recent grad. I signed with MBB last year. However, I have always wanted to do tech PM. I couldn’t find PM job in Fall and just signed MBB offer I have. I recently got an FAANG offer. It’s PM function, hard to break in with consulting experience. I declined the new offer during interview stage and again after they gave me initial offer, but it is coming back with 80k more in annual compensation. It made me so torn!! Should I renege MBB offer?
