Working on applications for academic positions (tenure-track), and finding it extremely difficult to write a research statement that is not too close to my current research that hiring faculty would think I lack originality, but also not too far-fetched/unrealistic or on topics that I find interesting but has insufficient knowledge/expertise.

Any tips?

Are there women here that have a significantly larger income than their male partner/ spouse? My husband used to make a little more money 10 years ago when we first met (when we were both making under 60k). But I have noticed that this has caused a lot of serious issues for our relationship. any advice?

Are recruiters worth more than L&D specialists? We have a new recuiter that transferred in from another dept. & is already making more than me and has a higher comp range. We have same tenure & they have NO prev. recuiting experience. I should also add I have been helping cover recuiting in interim. I also help cover HR tasks, have my SHRM, 5 years of HR exp., and 2 degrees. Is the "value" for recruiters more than L&D? I feel a little taken advantage of, but want to know if I'm off base here.

I really want to quit my toxic job where I'm underpaid because it's detrimental to my mental health, but I haven't been able to secure a new job in this market after 6+ months of searching

How do you negotiate more PTO after being in a company for two years? I am from overseas, and it takes me a while to travel back and forth. I currently have two weeks of PTO. Any tips are greatly appreciated.

I'm working in a company that I like, but I'm been quite underpaid. We recruited a new recruiter with a salary 25% more than the one I'm in. I've been approached by other companies, but I wouldn't like to leave, the only reason I would consider moving to a new job is the salary. Should I be open and discuss it with my LM? The formal salary review process is approaching in 2 months, but no way I could get a good salary increase in the formal process, I believe the max could be 6%-7%.

SPHR exam- has anyone ever been “randomly selected” for an application audit? This just happened to me and the sheer amount of effort that is going to go into collecting all the documents almost makes me not want to follow through. Since I didn’t finish undergrad, they’re asking for a copy of my high school diploma or transcript and that itself is going to be an absolute nightmare to get hold of. Guess I’m not really looking for a solution here, just venting.

Engagement at my company is very low. We’ve done surveys but they are too high level to understand how to improve it. We’re building a sort of “task force” to brainstorm solutions to some of our main issues. We’re looking for a creative name for the “task force” that would make people excited to join and hopeful for change. Any ideas?

First time poster here!

After spending 4 years as a mid-level ops manager, I tried to break into HR through talent acquisition. Now after 6 years in TA, I've had a hard time getting out of it. My goal was always to get into a more broad HRBP position, but I've since worked for smaller orgs without a solid HR career path. When I ask about my career goals, they keep telling me, "Soon!" Or "Maybe in 6 months!"

I'm testing SPHR in June. Any advice for securing the type of role I'm aiming for?

Resume question that I struggle to answer. If someone has been working for ~20 years and has worked at a number of companies during that time (let’s say 10 for the sake of this example), the resume becomes way too long. Is it okay to remove the 1st couple of jobs that were held after college even if relevant? Or maybe delete a job or 2 if they aren’t 100% relevant to the rest of the person’s career? Final option is to leave names of companies (and titles) of early roles but delete the content.

Such a great reading and a refresher on Leaders Eat Last by Simon Sinek!!!
As leader your title doesn’t mean much if you don’t care for your people. Self-awareness and reflection on how you lead your team. Without people you have no business. You’re leading people not numbers nor a spreadsheet! employees are humans with emotions, lives outside of work, families to care for. Life happens to everyone. Respect everyone at all levels of society no one is above anyone!!!
