I have an interview for a full time urgent care position tomorrow. I’ve worked in family medicine and covered shifts in urgent care occasionally throughout that time, but have never worked full time in urgent care. Any suggestions for questions to ask, things to look out for, red flags? I’m interviewing for urgent care because I moved. there are no family medicine opportunities near me right now, but I may transition into family medicine with this company after a few years once I get in the door

They will be looking for candidates that can see volume. So share strengths like multitasking, time management etc. People often complain when they don’t get antibiotic so when they ask “tell me a time about a difficult patient” offer up your ability to value antibiotic stewardship and educate while leaving the patient satisfied. Former APP director of 31 urgent cares. Hope this helps!

Right productivity. Make sure that you have strong administrators that insist on team players. Productivity pay will result in being bullied if you are a nice person. For example I worked at a place where one provider would "give"you her 85 year old who has a laceration after fall, and take your family 5 with normal vitals and "cold symptoms." That 85 year old needs to be screened as to why she fell and you may have to suture. In the end you spend 1/2 hour with the 85 year old as ethically you need to make sure she does not need a longer evaluation. Your "friend" in the meantime gets pats on the back at your expense for seeing more patients than you.

As a former mgr. most of my providers left family medicine for urgent care
It’s one and done no continuation of care headaches
3 12 hrs shifts and that’s it

One of the best jobs I have ever had in nursing. I’m no longer working at urgent care because I relocated out of state. Most satisfying job to me. As long as you have a great crew. When it’s busy our motto was get them in and get them out!

I am posting 5 months later. I hope if you went into urgent care you got a good team. Urgent care has a high burn out rate. I worked in California In Rural Urgent Cares where they would use it as family practice/urgent care and they were constantly short staffed. Management was so incompetant they would misinterpret the agreement to see all patients that presented to get their extra 15 dollars per patient that we would be closing and they would accept 10 more patients. I would have to work 2 hours beyond closing and they had to pay everyone ovvertime. It can get ridiculous.

Larger, sophisticated firm with amazing family law practice group making big overtures at me. Having coffee meeting with managing partner-elect, what are some topics I should focus on?

New firm has wide range of practice areas and would be 60-70 attorneys. Really like attorneys in their family group and have arguably “better” clients. Have practiced 10 years at same small office (crim/PI/fam) and feel capped out. Won’t be a partner/owner at current firm until boss retires (3-5yrs).

I work in healthcare administration but was a medic for years. You learn so much about innovation but seems like most health systems just want people to fall in line and just do what's always been done. I feel severely underpaid as I work claims, pre-auths, follow-up, AR, RTW/atty req/med req/c9 req/approvals, etc. for the WC revenue cycle. Interested in hearing others salaries for the role? Or roundabout? OR WC salaries in general. Also, what’s the next upward career move after working a role as this? Thank you! (I work remotely if this helps)

Hi there! I’m a newbie to fish bowl 🙂 so I’ve been approached for a management position at my current hospital that I’ve been at for about 3 yr. I’m currently in a coordinator position with my MSA (specialized in healthcare admin). This will be my first opportunity at an actual management role. I’m excited for it and also nervous. I know it shouldn’t be this way - but I know that my current boss is going to L O S E I T when I approach her about this. Advice?
