Hi All, My sister has done Computer Science engineering Bachelor degree and has 5 years of work experience in India. She is applying for MBA at https://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/programs/mba/full-time-mba/ and https://kelley.iu.edu/programs/full-time-mba/academics/majors-minors/marketing.html. Her overall goal is to get into Software Product management. Any suggestions if any of these MBA’s can open path in the desired space or if she is better of doing an MS in Comp engg. to further develop deeper Technology skills. Thanks

Happy Friday to all the grinders and wage slaves.
Depending on what point in the interview process you’re at, you can say different things. If it’s in the very beginning stages, tell them you don’t have any numbers in mind yet and that you’d like to learn more about the role and other benefits before thinking about that. They want your expectations because they want to pay you as little as possible (sad but true) so if they budgeted 60K for the role but you go in and say 45K, that’s what you’ll get. You could also ask them for a range so you get a better idea of what they’re looking for. If you’re closer to the end of the interview process and feel like at that point you should be giving them a number, tell them a range but that you would also have to see what else in included in terms of benefits, perks, etc.
This is a great podcast episode to listen to if you want to know more about how to go about the salary negotiation process, lots of good tips for how to answer that question! https://www.kalzumeus.com/2016/06/03/kalzumeus-podcast-episode-12-salary-negotiation-with-josh-doody/
Wow that really helps, thanks a lot !

Always say you’re within the range even if it’s low so you don’t get excluded from the interview loop. Never tell them your salary expectation. Once an offer comes, negotiate the heck out of it.
Thank you !
Ask for 50k and don’t be scared. If you’re a good candidate they’ll see it. And if they pick someone else because they’re 3k cheaper than you, is that a place you even want to work for?
Great point of view, thank you !
